Hong Kong's benchmark Hang Seng index closed above the 30,000 level for the first time in more than a decade on Wednesday as momentum from strong earnings and bullish global sentiment supported the index.
HONG KONG (Dec 05) -- Hong Kong's benchmark Hang Seng Index could rise to 34,000 in 2018, with strong gains likely early in the year before it sees a turnaround toward the year-end, local brokerage Sun Hung Kai Financial said on Tuesday.
Nov 27 (Reuters) - Hong Kong shares closed lower on Monday, as investors largely shrugged off data showing profits at China's industrial firms continued to grow at a robust pace last month despite a slight cooling from a sizzling September.
The benchmark Hang Seng Index, led by gains in index heavyweights, rose 1.14 percent, or 325.44 points, at 28,965.29. Shares in Tencent Holdings (0700) breached HK$400 for the first time this month in the afternoon trading session.
The Hang Seng Index closed 30 points lower yesterday on HK$100 billion turnover, despite blue-chip Geely Automobile Holdings (0175) climbing 6.4 percent, together with the gain of other Morgan Stanley Capital International stocks.
