Subject: Dupont Johnny Come Lately to Seed
It's quiet revealing of their insecurities about their main business:
Dupont getting into the seed business is like McDonald getting into
the gourmet coffee business.  Both companies are trying to play catch-
up on already established trends well in progress by companies that
are much better in both seeds and coffee.

Even if the Duponts and McDonalds of the world make headway in their
out-of-league, follow-the-trend urges; they will most likely not have
the same dynamic growth as the real McCoys in both areas.

You want seed and Agri?  Stick to the known major players in Ag. And
Don't listen to the paid-off TV pundits plugging DD daily trying to
sell an old, tired, stuffy pig to you by putting red lipstick allover
it, either.

Ag/Seed is the latest Fad/Flavor of the Month for Dupont.
Dupont is not only not the best of the breed in Ag, but Dupont is not
even in the breed.
There are more established jems in Ag.  DD is just trying to pull a
McCafe like MacDonald is doing with gourmet coffee.  It's like these
companies are taking a chance at what they were not made to be, you
want to go on a speculative ride with unknown destination on DD and
McDonalds?

Yeah your right. Untapped growth potential and the opportunity to take
market-share away from competing companies is stupid. Diversification
is just for suckers........

Volatility and ytd is better for MCD than SBUX and adding another
revenue stream is just good business. SBUX is more exposed than MCD.
Likewise, DD is just trying to become more multi-faceted in it's
overall business approach. Is there inherent risk of losing sight of
their "original strengths" when branching deeper into a market
segment? Of course. Doesn't  mean that "speculation" isn't profitable
either.

Why go for Johnny-come-Latelies when the real McCoys are out there?
Would you rather get a VSOP Cognac, or cheap scotch on the dirty
linoleum floor?  Guess the K-mart shoppers amongst us will buy DD as
an "Ag" play!

Although I like the dig on Kmart, I still view an "Ag play" as not
loyalty toward one or two specific stocks. Look at any 401(k) or and
index; there's always some David's mixed in with some Goliaths to give
it balance. Maybe a big boy will go Tycho or Enron, and that little
"safe" play could pay off. Besides, there's a big difference b/t
playing a stock because what it's actually worth and what the market
dictates.

HEWILMINGTON, Del., April 10 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- DuPont (NYSE:
DD)
today raised its first quarter 2008 earnings estimate to about $1.29
per
share, compared to its previous outlook of $1.14 to $1.19 per share
which
was provided March 14. This represents more than 20 percent growth in
earnings in the first quarter. Last year, the company reported first
quarter earnings of $1.01 per share, including a $.06 special item
charge.

Higher first quarter 2008 earnings compared to last year reflect
strong
growth in DuPont's agriculture businesses combined with rapid growth
in
emerging markets. The strength in the first quarter is expected to
more
than offset continued weakness in U.S. construction and automotive
markets.
In addition, price and productivity gains, along with favorable
currency
effects, are expected to overcome the impact of significantly higher
raw
material costs.

Dupont owns Pioneer seed, which is a very large seed company, and has
been around for many years. There is no comparison, do you know what
you are talking about. Do some research on Pioneer Hi-bred.

DD is certainly no sure fire bet as an AG play due to its exposure to
other sectors.  However, neither is it a Johnny come lately to the
seed business and, to the extent it may benefit from a long term
uptrend in AG due to worldwide food demand, it is trading at a
discount to your Monsantos.  I am going long with the thought that it
may break out on AG, but if not, AG will support modest growth until
housing and other chemical dependant sectors come around.

First of all saying that DD is like McDonalds is a compliment.
McDonalds has increased their revenues by adding coffee to their menu.
I guess not everyone wants to pay $5 dollars for coffee, go figure. As
for investing in DD as oppose to MON or POT try looking at their PE
ratio for once.

Do you have any clue as to what diversification means? Or whether or
not a dividend has any value to the stockholder?
