WYE is a good buy if its below 47, but its an amazing buy at any price
below 44.45. It is straight up risk arbitrage with a 30 cent quarterly
dividend. That's 1.20 annualized dividend, at 44.00 its a more than
2% return only counting dividend. Just put a stop order at 40 to
protect from a merger fall out and sit back and enjoy 2%+ potential

You go right ahead but remember the BO is $33/shr + .985/shr of PFE
for each WYE shr. So you'll never upgrade from your little yellow bus
by accumulating WYE shares now. If you're lucky, maybe you can
replace a pair of those may-pops. However, if the PFE/WYE falls out
(not predicting this but WYE has a long history of bothched deals)

You do realize that Pfizer is buying Wyeth just to sure up their
pipeline post Lipitor? You're a proven retard for suggesting
investors accumulate Wyeth stock now while awaiting this deal. Folks
would do as well buying a 9-mos CD with zero risk. There is no
upside for Wyeth... just look at todays action where the Dow and S&P

Why would anyone "accumulate" shrs of WYE after the Pfizer BO terms
are known? At this point, there's absolutely no upside to this stock
(unless PFE shrs take off -- which we all know won't happen before

industries best product pipelines. You would do well to accumulate a
bigger position.

Today was a big surprise that we finished higher. I take shrugging off

There is an interesting phenomena now with the share price of Wyeth.
With the merger proposal of $33+.985* PFE, essentially the long
position on Wyeth is that its shares should be priced as a derivative
of Pfizer's current market price.

Disclosure: I'm long on Wyeth (with a careful eye on PFE's price).

It only equals the buyout price when the deal goes through, which I
read is "late in the 3rd quarter or in the 4th qtr". Until then the
buyout price will always be a little or a lot more than the price of
the day. Depends on how uncertain people are day by day.

Very good question I was under the impression it went to the buy out
price but I have no idea what is going on here. It always seem like
the stock jumps to the buyout price but in this case it didn't so it
is interesting. Anyone know why??? Help us out.

How does one quantify risk?

What I did was to quantify the various price scenarios of Pfizer and
Wyeth.

The market just got gripped by fear. It's better to do a sensitivity
analysis rather than let fear do the risk quantification.

I just wonder how the agreement of 0.985 share swap was determined.

Here's the thing... The deal isn't done yet... Chances are it will get
done but still room for it to collapse.. Uncertainty really takes its
toll. Another thing to keep in mind is the ratio. one will receive $33
cash and .985 shares of pfe for every share of wyeth which currently

I think Pfizer is eating crow for selling off their consumer health
division to J&J back in the day. While it's true both lack a truly
robust pipeline, Wyeth is diversified with consumer health and their
Fort Dodge animal health.

pfizer merger is terrrible for wyeth share holders you could have got
out $50 many times before, it could be worth $75 in a few years/

with pfizer you get worthless pfizer paper, half dividend and big debt

NY Times reports that Pfizer will pay $33 in cash and .985 shares of
Pfizer for every share of Wyeth. Pfizer hasn't done anything in years
(and will now likely halve their dividend), so Wyeth folks may want to
dump it and buy something else...
