This is a strong company. I see no reason that they cannot bounce back
from the recent scandal and credit crunch. Anyone else think this
stock is under-valued?

Prior to the report I heard talk of $11 billion loss.  Looks like
things were a bit better than feared.
Capital raising could be a positive too.  Lets see how it plays out
before you scream OUCH!

that S&P rating cut really destoryed the stock its down 4 bucks
aftermarket.

AIG Is going down big, at least for next 1-3 years. Hard to predict
what will happen after. Don't hold on or be super patient.

Cramer was one of them who said "BUY AIG".

There is still continous fall out in subprime mortgage market decline
in the US. AIG through its subsidaries provides general insurance
(including residential and commercial property insurance), life
insurance, retirement services, and asset management. Considering the
collapse in the subprime mortgage market, and the world economy nearly
being in a recession, it is a hard task for such a big insurance
company like AIG to show positive outcomes. Missing earnings by a wide
margine for 3 consecutive quarters is not a good sign.
However, AIG being one of the top 10 big companies in the world,
revenue generation of over $100 bil, and product diversification, this
company has strong foundation and stability in long-term.
In short-term, in my opining this stock would fluctuate below $40.

Well it may be a good buy at $40.

Good luck. I am  buying now. because   guess what. everyone  knew aig
will post loss.  you could  expect sharp  drop in the stock.  so many
people shorted. now tomorrow morning  will be perfect time  to take
profits and  cover short position. So the stock  will go UP.
thats besides of the fact that as  noted above,  aig is  really
strong  company witha  presence all over the world.

doubt that.

I think after today it hits somewhere between $34-$36 tomorrow, get in
on the upswing next week or so.  Just stay away from it tomorrow, let
the shorts cover this baby.

Sell before it gets to low $30s.

I see Ph.D. still stands for piled higher and deeper.

I think AIG can go even lower because the way many of the insurance
companies use and price the CDOs and many of  the derivatives is even
more exotic and opaque than even the banks. And once this has been
properly calculated the writedowns that will follow may even be
steeper than they appear now.
