Mobile users top 480m in Q1
(Xinhua)
Updated: 2007-05-04 17:04

The number of Chinese mobile users exceeded 480 million by the end of
March, with 6.5 million new subscribers added every month in the first
quarter, figures with the Ministry of Information Industry (MII)
show.

The number of new subscribers averaged five million a month last
year.

Mobile phone use was expanding rapidly in rural areas and some people
had more than one phone number, according to the MII report.

The MII figures also showed the Chinese sent 135.8 billion text
messages in the first quarter, up 37.4 percent over the same period of
last year.

Meanwhile, the number of fixed-line users topped 370 million by the
end of March, with 1.06 million new subscribers added per month in the
first quarter.

More fixed-line users would choose to use cell phones as the cost of
handsets and user charges continued to fall, according to the report.

The number of cell phone users reached 460 million at the end of last
year, 67.7 million more than the end of 2005. On average, every 100
Chinese people had 35.3 cell phones and 28.1 fixed-line phones.

China imported its first mobile phone telecommunication facilities in
1987 and it took a decade for the number of subscribers to reach 10
million. Four years later, the country had the largest number of
mobile phone subscribers in the world.

Looking at the telecom manufacturing industry, it seems that this
stock is undervalued compared to its competitors. I believe this is at
least a $15 stock, possibly reaching that level in the next couple of
weeks.

Shares it above $12 for the first day, and now are in the low 10s,
wondering why it dropped so. Guess profit taking, people aren't sure
about recent chinese IPOs. However, the entire telecom industry on the
whole is fairing quite well lately.

What do you all feel this stock is worth?

I agree wit you, this stock is worth at least $!5 given its offering
on very unique mobile features, gaining more popular through TV
shopping & other marketings.

Where did yall buy in on this one? I was watching it the entire day,
and saw it drop from $12.45, eventually I took the bait at $12 without
realizing IPOs traditionally drop lower than its original pricing for
the first few days and then come back up again.

I gave in when I should have waited for the premium to subside. I'm
going to ride this one for a couple of weeks, hoping for a 15% profit

I thought that this would fly out of the gate so I jumped in in the
low $12s.  Oops.  I'm sure it will come up but now I'm really kicking
myself.  I see this doing very well over the next months, but thought
it was weird that XING took a dump the day this went public.  Is that
common for subsidiarys?
