Undervalued? Are you smoking crack?

They're both insolvent but are being allowed to hide it, your stock is
little more than a call on them surviving this mess and somehow
miraculously reaching profitability again in the future. Levered 60:1
means that if their trillion dollar book is even 2% garbage they're
toast. What do you think the chances of that are with housing dropping
20, 30, 40% in some areas? Heres to hoping Paulson let's them fail
rather than socializing the losses. Even if the government bails them
out do you really think there's going to be any pie left once the
bondholders take their slices?

Otherwise, America is going to be dragged to bankruptcy.

Agreed with above poster, why are you crying for a government bailout
tio?
You took risk buying 2 junkers, FRE and FNM are both insolvent, they
have 5 trillion of mortgages on their balance sheet. If 10% are at
risk of default that is 500bil of losses alone.... These are not PRIME
mortgages, if they were the stock would be at $60 the next day.

Oh, please. That's nothing but a short's wet dream.  Fannie hasn't
even had to touch the Fed borrowing window (which was opened to them
for the first time,) nor the Treasury funds made available to them by
the new housing bill.  Their balance sheet and exposures are much
better than Freddie's, and Fannie alone is reported to have more than
$1 trillion in _unpledged_ assets.  Combined with the latest housing
bill and all the explicit support now given to Fannie (and Freddie,)
if that doesn't make you reconsider your doomsday view, I don't know
what would.  Some people just live in a bubble.  But even more are
simply dishonest. I've noticed a lot of dishonest shorts, posting in
online forums.  It's out of control, like a plague.

these two stocks were thought to be going bankrupt. This news just now
is not as bad. So I think its time to buy again. Load up people.

speak. Do you know if half of those hit what will happen?
What has bush done? He has pissed off the russians even more by trying
to put missle defense in poland.
You think russians will ever allow that to happen? They have already
said to Poland that if the allow US to put the missle defence they
will nuke poland.
All this shit has been started by BUSH and I believe he was in charge
of 9/11. He needed an excuse to start his mess.

Although Paulson didn't speak out, someone from his office did today
and said they would not say anything in re: to something that wasn't
written in barron's, that it was not anything that they would speak
to, in other words, meaningless.  It is no secret that fnma and
freddie are in trouble and I am happy to be rid of her but I panicked
it, pushed the panic button.  I don't know if I did the right thing by
taking a loss.  I do know that fnma is still the biggest holder of
mortgages in the "world" so can they collapse?  Bush is really not in
favor of saving them with u.s. money and paulson alrready said he
wouldn't, so people writing in barron's and bill gross of pimco are
pushing this so that the bonds will be safe and paid off, otherwise
they will default on everything.  In January, Paulson is leaving.
There will be a new person, a new congress, a new president.  This is
what I feel you have to look at.  If you get a dem. pres. what do they
do?  If you remain with the repub., what will they do, who will Sen.
McCain hire and what are his feelings on saving fnma and freddie.  As
someone told me, which I didn't do, but for the rest of you who may be
saner than me, take a deep breath and research what could happen
before you drive yourselves crazy.

Paulson didn't say he wouldn't, he said it isn't planned... because it
isn't needed.  Big difference.  The explicit Federal support remains.

I don't like Bush, but I want him to be tough on Russia.  They are the
biggest THUGS on the planet.  I hope we bomb them back to the stone
age, they deserve it.  No one is as bad as them.  They freakin' poison
people to death with radioactive isotopes, for crying out loud.  If
they nuke Poland, then we will nuke them.

I'm not worried about a nuclear war.  Haven't you all taken us history
101 and read about mutually ensured destruction?  For every nuke that
Russia would send to the US, you can be sure we'd be sending a few
back.

Realistically, we can't afford another war.  We are already stretched
too thin with Iraq and Afghanistan.  Unless we call up all our
reserves or enact a draft which would be wildly unpopular, it can't be
done.

Plus, Russia can't enter a war with the US with out getting most of
Europe involved (Read NATO Article 5), and vice versa.  They don't
have a war machine strong enough to engage all their fronts in Europe
and  invade/attack the US.  As booming as Russia's Oil has been, they
still have soviet era war machinery, while the US and Europe have
constantly been upgrading.  If there are smart, they will be like
china, stay out of other people business, and beat the capitalist at
their own game.

So stop watching CNN/Fox News and pay more attention to those
tickers  :)

Chill people. The Hedgies are still covering their short positions.
The Barron's propaganda from "unnamed white house sources" is just
cover.

This will take time to clear up. The same hedgies will go long once
they cover. Even Greenspan said the housing mess would be over mid
2009. FNM and FRE already have raised their fees and they're selling
bonds every week. If they had any problems sellign bonds the bond
rates would go up. But their bonds are selling just a bit over
treasury rates. That tells me that their are still buyers and the
buyers have already discounted these hedgies rumors. The hedgies are
just trying to scare the public. The smart money is ignoring them.
