Subject: Foreclosures still a big problem
Housing still has serious problems and HD is going to have to muddle
through for a long time:

"The result is that responsible homeowners across America are
grappling with the possibility of foreclosure and displacement.
Analysts project that more than 6 million families could face
foreclosure over the next three years. "

From Assistant Secretary for Financial Institutions Michael S. Barr
Written Testimony on Stabilizing the Housing Market before the House
Financial Services Committee, Subcommittee on Housing and Community
Opportunity

I'm actually surprised that HD is trading over $23.00 right now. But I
expect a drop as the winter season comes. I might pick up some then.
Past performance is no indicator of future performance, though. I just
usually see it drop around winter every year.

I think once the $8k first-time-buyer incentive expires and the next
wave of foreclosures hit, HD will head south by quite a few points.

If foreclosures were the only factor, I'd agree.  Not to mention
unemployed / under-employed folks.

The thing is, a lot of people still have a house.  A house with a
leaky sink, or a broken dish washer.  So I think there is a core
income that is non cyclical.
Then add the fact that the management is progressive and proactive in
boosting store efficiency, product distribution, and store manager
ownership. (giving them more control to tweak their store to meet
community needs.)

I say the economy is the only thing holding HD back.  I see them as
coiled up and ready to strike.

35 by year end.

sales eventually pick up (overseas demand in particular due to a weak
dollar) but with inventories so lean companies need to hire back
workers to restock. will most likely be a very slow process. home
buyers overcome some of their fear and start buying a little.
