Is Home Depot in trouble? Here are some interesting things that are
occurring in their stores;

A. Stores have been capped at how much inventory they can order each
day ($ amount). One department can easily hit this cap trying to order
Velocity code A items.
B. Stores are now constantly transferring merchandise by rented box

Yeah, I dislike Martha Stewart on many levels. What I have really
noticed is that any retailer that sells her product, has outrageous
prices on it. I don't think it'll be that popular an item. Martha
Stewart is probably getting a huge chuck of stock for free for doing
it. Lately allot of people have noticed that HOME DEPOT buyers are

Did you ever walk in a Home Depot store lately...the customer's are
just buying small ticket items like: furnace filters, light bulbs,
lawn fertilizer...etc. No big ticket items like windows, doors...etc.
Nothing like it used to be but their expenses are still the same. It
reminded me more of Circuit City with employees just standing around.

I've paid very close attention to home values the past 5 years and
have noticed that after a small drop in value last year (2008), prices
have rebounded to new highs in most areas. I can't explain what is
happening, but I can assume that all those people who made 50K a year
and purchased $400,000 homes (and lost them) are scrambling to find

HD is close to a 4% yield, it almost makes sense to buy some here,
earn the dividend and wait for a housing market recovery. HD yields 4%
at $22 a share. I have been watching this stock forever and it just
never gets any traction.

I think there are concerns that any housing market recovery has been
stalled out by the recent increase in mortgage rates. I am waiting for
a little bit better yield to tide my over while waiting for a housing
recover, i.e. on my watch list but not in my portfolio.

It's called TRANSPARENCY! HD has been cautious, because they didn't
want to be overly optimistic and disappoint.
Dividend Question

OK, so HD has announced a 22.5 cent dividend payable at the end of
June. If you hold stock on 6/11, you get the dividend.

In a perfect world, if I bought on 6/10, given no up or down, I'd make
a 22.5% profit by month-end. However, I have to assume that the
dividend comes into play in the price somehow.

I'm looking to get in on HD speculating that the housing market is
going to turn around soon. I'm hoping for a $22 handle. I know, hope
is a bad investment strategy but I want to minimize my downside since
it may take awhile for HD to get traction on the upside. Nice dividend
though for a stock with some upside.
