Subject: truth about china sales WILL BE overwhelming
bits of purposefull mis-information circulates - the truth is many
stores sold the few iphones they had almost immediately - and that the
company expects to sell million per month - you know, of course, this
doesnt include IMAC, IPOD, Itouch, itv, and the coming ISlate -
virtually tripling its potential market .... why do analyst only
concentrate on the phone - the HALO effect is the STORY

I completely agree with the HALO effect being the real story here.  We
are only seeing the tip of the iceberg as far as it is concerned.
More exposure, more growth.

Are your comments on China iPhone sales fact (i.e. do you have any
concrete evidence that they are selling?) or are they opinion?  I
appreciate either, but it is important for me to know the difference.
Last I saw of the China sales was an estimate of 5k phones sold, huge
disappointment.  At the same time, the prices over there seem to be
fueling the grey market phone sales, which means that they are still
selling.  I don't particularly care where they sell them as long as
they sell.

In all fairness to the analysts they focus on the phone b/c it has a
high profit margin and is currently one of, if not the biggest things
in tech.

When you use words like "truth", you need to back it up with some
facts.  I heard they only added 5,000 subscribers this morning on Mac
OS Ken podcast.   I think it is fair, if that is true, that the launch
was underwhelming.  I love my iPhone but I doubt I would purchase one
if it didn't have WiFi.   That severely handicaps the device,   Is the
wireless capability in the hardware but just not enabled or is it
missing altogether?

yes - well, i dont think we can use "news" reporting as a basis of
'fact' any more - but, almost all of those stores had very few phones
to sell - tech asians (no stereotype, well at least not a derogatory
one, meant) will have this un-locked in a moment - the question is
about service, every day use, itunes - and because the iphone is SUCH
an enourmously important "source of information/access/free enterprise/
social advancement) we will see the chineese want unfettered access to
everything apple has to offer - to our kids, and growingly our
enterprise and entreprueneurs iphone is already indipensible) but to
chineese who dont have ready access, this is GOLDEN, more important
then anything we could comprehend ... that is the difference no
analyst is understanding - this is the second Berlin Wall - remember
that statement -THE SECOND BERLIN WALL

We can't use news reporting as a basis for fact.  Are you suggesting
to use the Google discussion board instead?  Dude, I'm as much of a
fanboy as anyone.   I own just about every Apple product but it looks
to me like the Chinese regulations and government could push the
iPhone to the black market.   There still might be a Halo effect but I
think it is way too soon to make such dramatic predictions.
Personally, I hope you are right since I am long on Apple.

1. Why would I use Itunes when I can get free music legally from
Baidu? (If I was in China)

2. People in China already have means of accessing as much information
as they can get, they are just not doing it through the iphone.

3. You can argue that IF China stops restricting the media, 3G device
would do very well. I would rather bet on winning the lottery before
that ever happens. Every company who "sells" a means to provide
information has ran into this issue. As long as their economy is doing
well, the majority of the people do not care about politics.

No need to push the iphone to the black markt. It has been selling in
the black market for many months now, and that version has wifi, even
better than the legit version. But no worries, because the chinese gov
is caving in to public pressure and allowing future iphones to have
wifi. Sales will reach 5 million for sure

How are they caving into public pressure? They haven't even unblocked
facebook and youtube yet.

And 5 million for sure? From what assumptions?

You guys focus on wifi - Unicom has one of the fastest 3G networks and
the capacity to deliver the bandwidth from what I hear - makes WIFI a
non issue on the phone - it does limit the usefulness of the touch...
