So says the statement from Apple PR today. Also over 100,000 apps
available now. Look on the Apple site.

Let me formally introduce you to the underlying concept behind Apple
and the Apple culture... Groupthink

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Groupthink

Read it. Study it. Understand it.

As usual, your totally wrong Matt (Drako.)
Apple is an island of innovation in a sea of groupthink.
A few examples:
• Apple competitors imitate superficial traits of Apple's success
without understanding the actual underlying reasons for their success
(Cargo Cultism.)
• Whatever Apple does, their competitors try to do a few years later
and in a less competent way (insert list of most computer
innovations.)
• Apple competitors scramble to use exactly the same operating system
(but then eschew interoperable hardware and open standards creating
and Babel of incompatibilities.)
• Apple competitors use focus groups and research "to innovate" but it
always results in "same old same old" commodity crap or poorly thought
out products.  This is because they are using their "research" to
confirm their established groupthink notions of what the product
should be.
• By comparison Apple knows innovation doesn't come from surveys or
focus groups. It comes from real research into what people *do* and
how products fit in to their lives and activities.
I suggest you go back and actually
"Read it. Study it. Understand it."
And stop lecturing people who understand things better than you do
(which is almost everyone on this forum.)

Draiko - you never responded to my "business 101" discussion
concerning profits vs volume in the iPhone in China thread yesterday
morning.  My logic still holds and is fundamental to any business.
Clearly you don't understand business 101.   IT business is my
business.  Cheers.

Oldtar: I'm sorry, I didn't see the rest of that thread... I was busy
with life, work, etc.

JPW: You don't seem to understand what Groupthink is.

Let me show you the symptoms of Groupthink in relation to this board:

1. Illusions of invulnerability creating excessive optimism and
encouraging risk taking.
Look in the mirror for this one. How many of you bought AAPL when it
was above $200? Why did you buy it above $200?

2. Rationalizing warnings that might challenge the group's
assumptions.
Look at what you guys say to me. Example: Some of you think that the
5,000 unit iPhone China Launch wasn't a problem because the sales will
ramp up in the future.

3. Unquestioned belief in the morality of the group, causing members
to ignore the consequences of their actions.
Yeah, throwing personal insults at facts due to Unquestioned belief in
your own morality. You guys can say no wrong as long as it's pro-
Apple.

4. Stereotyping those who are opposed to the group as weak, evil,
biased, spiteful, disfigured, impotent, or stupid.
I can't even remember how many times I've been called a Troll, Balmer,
MS FUDster... etc..

5. Direct pressure to conform placed on any member who questions the
group, couched in terms of "disloyalty".
I bet Paul might have a few things to say about this.

6. Self censorship of ideas that deviate from the apparent group
consensus.
Look to yourselves for this one. I bet a good many of you have kept
any anti-apple sentiments to yourselves at some point.

7. Illusions of unanimity among group members, silence is viewed as
agreement.
Oldtar's post above is a prime example of this one... instead of
agreement, he assumed my silence was a sign I relented.

8. Mind guards — self-appointed members who shield the group from
dissenting information.
Buddy is a prime example of this... He loves to change the titles to
any Anti-Apple posts.

So... there you go :)

Great emotional response.  I am busy with life too.  Remember IT is my
business. But you still didn't respond to my "business 101" discussion
in the "iPhone in China" thread.  I look at all my investing from a
business perspective.  And real business is unemotional.  The bottom
line always rules.  So I provided you with a very unemotional,
unfanboy analysis.  Still waiting for your intelligent, unemotional,
thought out response.  Cheers.

My apolgies Draiko.  Since you are so busy, I should have included my
comments from the other thread in the above reply.  Since I forgot to,
here is what I said:

"This is getting ugly.  Let's review business 101 (simploified).
Total
profits=volume X margin.  AAPL has tremendous margin, and high volume
(today) in iPhone/iPod.  In Mac sales, volume has been picking up.
Result = blow out profits.  Now Matt/Draiko/whatever is correct that
you make a lot of profit at $10 margin if you have blow out volume.
However, there is one slight complicating factor.  If many companies
make the same product (netbooks?) and only make $10 per item, the
profit PER COMPANY is very fragmented.  Net result, the company that
keeps higher margin, but has lower overall volume actually makes more
profit. Why would a company give up volume for margin?  That is only
possible if the product has greater value than the cometitors. That
is
AAPL's strategy; give people high quality, high value products, which
results in higher per unit profit.  This is no different than
comparing a Chevy with a BMW.  Much higher margin on the BMW, lower
volume, but continued profitability, because people are willing to
pay
a premium for quality and value.  Happy trading. "

Matt, now you are stating your opinion on the groupthink
characteristics of some people on this board whereas before you were
saying Apple Inc. was encumbered by groupthink.
Apple clearly is not a groupthink culture. Innovation cannot be
produced inside a groupthink culture.
Did one of your high school teachers talk about groupthink recently?
