I think it's part of a normal cycle. First winds of recession,
traders/investors pull money out and put into healthcare,commodities,
then we hit recession, spending halts, no one needs basic materials,
everything crashes. Market picks back up, spending picks back up,
basic materials with it. I think most traders are interested as well

Interesting that this "Basic Materials" sector is the top gainer for
all sectors recently. Makes me think that investors are getting in
before the market turns positive again. I could be wrong though, if

Got in on Dec 8, 2008. For those that think of gold as money and
with short term treasuries paying 0%, gold and gold miners should be
looking more attractive. If foreign counties start loosing interest
in US Treasuries gold would be one of their options.

This is partly true.

Ask why gold wasn't liquidated before NEM, since NEM is levered to
gold and not vice versa.

If you're very worried about the short term movements of financial
securities levered to gold, I would recommend buying physical bullion.
If you do buy NEM, put the shares in a cash account where they can't
