Subject: Any chances that Progressive can get a stake from US Treasury
I just read on WSJ that

"The U.S. Treasury is considering buying a stake in certain insurance
companies as part of the federal bailout, The Wall Street Journal
reported Friday on its Web site, citing people familiar with the
matter. Under the Treasury's program, participating insurers would
need to have a financial institution holding company that is
regulated
at the federal level, according to the Journal."

What do you all think ?

Progressive Introduces Paperless Policies

Launch Coincides With 70th Anniversary Tree Planting; First of
Six Events Held In Cleveland Today
MAYFIELD VILLAGE, Ohio (Oct. 10, 2007)-The Progressive Group of
Insurance Companies today introduced Paperless Policies, a feature
that will allow customers who buy a policy directly from the company
or through one of the more than 30,000 independent insurance agencies
that represent it the ability to drastically reduce the amount of
policy-related paper documents they receive. Having policy documents
delivered electronically saves trees, expedites delivery of the
documents and reduces the opportunity for misplaced documents.

This new initiative is an extension of a Paperless Billing feature
introduced in early 2007 that allowed customers to opt for an
electronic bill versus a hard copy bill delivered by the U.S. Mail.

The Paperless Policy launch coincides with the company's "70 Years, 70
Trees" anniversary events being held in six call center cities. The
first event, in which 70 large trees are being planted in city parks
to celebrate the company's 70th year serving U.S. drivers' car
insurance needs, is being held today in Luke Easter Park in the
company's headquarter city, Cleveland.

The Paperless Policy is available in Indiana starting today. New and
existing customers, regardless of how they bought their Progressive
policy, can sign up at www.progressive.com/paperless or through their
local independent insurance agent. The feature will be introduced in
all states where the company does business by the end of 2007.

Progressive Introduces New "A-Side Plus" Coverage for Community Banks

Contact: Judi Kovach, Progressive Casualty, (800) 274-5222

MAYFIELD VILLAGE, Ohio (October 8, 2007) - Progressive Casualty
Insurance Company has added a new coverage option to its American
Bankers Association (ABA)-sponsored Financial Institution Program. A-
Side Plus expands the Directors and Officers (D&O) policy by providing
a separate, dedicated limit of liability to protect bank directors
when they cannot be indemnified by the bank. In addition, coverage is
not rescindable for any reason and extends to suits typically excluded
in D&O policies, such as those brought by whistleblowers or those
alleging illegal profit.

"Agents appreciate that the product is designed to meet a bank's
specific needs, without adding unnecessary complexity and expense,"
said John Wells, director of Progressive's Professional Liability
Group. "In addition to the dedicated limit, the non-rescindable aspect
of the coverage is key for ensuring that directors' personal assets
are protected."

Progressive's Financial Institution Program, which is sold by
independent agents countrywide, is endorsed by 27 state bankers
associations and offers community banks D&O, Internet Banking, Privacy
and Employment Practices Liability coverages, as well as Financial
Institution Bond and other related insurance products.

For more information about Progressive's Financial Institution
Program, call Judi Kovach at (800) 274-5222 or visit www.banks.progressive.com.

Progressive Casualty Insurance Company has earned an "A+" (Superior)
rating from the A.M. Best Company. An A+ Best rating reflects the
strength of a company's balance sheet, operating performance and
business profile.

Progressive Named to 2007 InformationWeek 500; Jumps More Than 160
Spots to Place 36th on the List
7:00 AM ET - BusinessWire

The Progressive Group of Insurance Companies has been named to the
2007 InformationWeek 500 - a top 500 ranking of the nation's largest
and most innovative users of information technology - for the eighth
consecutive year. Progressive jumped more than 160 spots to place 36th
on this year's list.

"The InformationWeek 500 is made up of the best and brightest users of
IT, and we're delighted to receive this honor for the eighth
consecutive year," said Ray Voelker, chief information officer,
Progressive. "The backbone of our IT organization rests on two things:
our people and our constant drive to innovate. This ranking is a
testament to the hard work and dedication of our organization."

"These companies represent today's leading technology innovators,"
said John Siefert, InformationWeek vice president and publisher. "This
group has prompted fascinating discussion on some of the most forward
looking business technology initiatives to date."

Progressive is always looking for innovative ways to re-invent the
customer experience to make it easy for people to shop for and buy
insurance. It was the first major car insurer in the world to
introduce a Web site (1995), first to sell auto policies real-time
online (1997) and first to give its customers online access and
control of their policies via a customer service site (1998). In 2006,
Progressive launched an interactive online claims reporting tool that
allows customers to report a claim and track its status from start to
finish.

I think we know why now...the ex-date came, and the stock dropped the
value of the dividend.  You can hold it and hope to get a bounce, but
if the intrinsic value is $20.00 and they have decreasing earnings,
why would the price go up?

I haven't done much research on this stock, but why not hold this just
for the $2 dividend? The ex-date is coming up. Doesn't it seem like an
easy way to pick up some money, while buying it on some light volume?

People should get paid what they are worth to the business. So if a
person that works for the company makes profit for the company, they
should be rewarded.
