Ah, yes, but if a company beats and lowers guidance for the year by a
penny--boom! 50% drop in 3 hours. I'm just assuming that they're
waiting for the conference call to lower the boom.

Ok, now that Ryland missed the number, where's the catastrophic drop?
The results showed essentially no cash flow outside of tax refunds,
revenues down 36.3%, gross margins down 50%, closings down 32%, new
orders down 37.6%, and a LOSS of $1.76/share.

Wasn't the estimate a loss of $1.02?

Or is the street waiting for the conference call tomorrow to drop the

possible retracement after the rally?

Top trendline has been violated for RYL. This was detected by
[link] see "Top line breakout (bullish)" filter on
screenulator.com on Apr 24.
I bet the rally should continue for at least a couple more days before
possible retracement.

That is what construction companies do, run out of working capital. No
cash. They just keep building until they go bankrupt, over and over
again. Ninety-nine percent of the contractors in the U.S. have been
bust at least once. Remember 40% of bankruptcies are repeats.
