Subject: help! I bought 3000 shares 4 days and now I am getting these margin alerts?
I am not to familiar with trading but I got a tip that this stock was
cheap and when things get better it will go to 160 again. I bought 3000 shares, somehow I was able to buy more shares than I thought and this is my savings. I am getting these margin alerts what is that and it says I will be closed out today? Help!! what is going on! You must Sign in before you can post messages.

you were able to buy more on margin, which is a fancy word for saying
you borrowed money to finance your purchases. Basically, the value of your holdings went down and since you're not allowed to borrow as much, you have to either sell some assets or put up more money to maintain the number of shares you have. You must Sign in before you can post messages.

Margin alerts basically mean that you bought shares with borrowed
money (a loan). The stock itself and/or other holdings are the collateral. Now that the shares are much lower than your purchase price, they want

I think this is a joke...assuming you bought before today. You would
have paid in the ballpark of 160,000, give or take a few. Who invest 160,000 (his life savings) without some homework or professional assistance. You must Sign in before you can post messages.

Well the money was from a flip a while ago and someone told be that
this stock is going to go up and it went down because of panic and it was a sure thing. now this margin deal, and the computer just let me put in 3000 and click buy but I do not have 160,000 dollars. how is this possible I am confused. how was I able to buy so much if I do not have 160,000 You must Sign in before you can post messages.

You will need to cover your margin call or they will sell all your

they;ll sell what they need, if u sell a call, they will take that

Selling calls is not a good move here. Bear Stearns has proven to defy
all market logic, but how much lower can it go? He'll sell the calls, never be able to buy them back, and be stuck with stock for two years that will eventually be sold at an extreme discount, and won't be able to claim any capital losses until then. If you had 80k in your account then your broker will allow u to buy
160k worth of shares. Why dou have to trade 3000 shares...
