Subject: The leadership in the U.S. is a joke
Boy, the big boys sure are well-protected in this country.  The Fed
has given tax dollars - tax dollars - to Bear Sterns to assume their
credit risk and keep them from going bankrupt.  Unbelievable.

Why is Bear going bankrupt?  Because they were greedy -- trying to
profit, profit, profit by creating and selling ridiculous mortgage-
backed securities long after the unsustainable housing bubble took
shape.  Bear should have known when enough was enough.  Now the Fed is
helping them out?  How much did Bear contribute to the U.S. debt when
they were rolling in cash?  Didn't think so.

This is the bailout that Jim Cramer was clamoring for last year in his
rant on CNBC.  Ol' Ben stuck to his guns only to fold now?  Good job,
Ben.  Now you've sacrificed your principles at a time when you can't
possibly head off an obscene liquidity crisis.  You've missed two
birds with your only stone.

That's a nice message to future white collar criminals and greed
mongers: "It may take a while, but you'll get your bailout."

Meanwhile, the Fed is setting things up for an even larger financial
crisis in the U.S. and a shift in global financial power to China &
the Middle East.  How cheap do you want U.S. assets to be, Ben?

As for most of you out there:  Yes, Joe Schmoe, President is an
important position and electing a greedy idiot to run things - TWICE -
eventually does have a trickle-down effect on you.  Don't you wish the
Fed would subsidize your debt instead of leaving you jobless &
homeless?

Maybe I'm clueless, but I didn't know the Federal Reserved had the
right to tax me?  I didn't even think they got money from Congress?
Oh that's right the Fed doesn't tax us!

I didn't say the Fed taxed us.  Read and comprehend.  Maybe you should
take a deep breath first.

To OP:

They are not going bankrupt because of their subprime losses, even
according to the ratings agencies that just cut them.  They are losing
so much money on rumors that they had no liquidity, rumors that
fulfilled themselves.  What do we do if they make their earnings
Monday?

Also, I agree with most of the rest of your post...but it's my
opinion, and those of the CEO, and those of ALL 3 ratings agencies
that cut them, that they are being rumored out of business.

They bounce easily 50% of the way back up  if they make earnings for
the simple reason that they will gain back the confidence they've lost
to liquidity rumors.  Man, I hope someone starts rumors about JPM or
GS so I can buy a ton of that cheap too!

LOL...I like the mentality on GS and JPM rumores. As for the initial
post, I love it. I didn't want a corporate bail out and I thought the
Feds interventions was the stupidest idea ever. So they bail out Bear
Stearns for their idiotic moves after they said they weren't going to
bail anyone out. Hmmm, they seem to be hypocrites. Now as for the Fed
swapping the money for 28 days, that was great a idea because the
companies still get stuck with their risky moves in the end. From the
beginning of this crises, the fed has always acted as if nothing was
going to happen. Then all of sudden they realize how stupid and naive
they were, so they cut drastically and idiotically 1.25 bps in a
month. If they acted in a timely manner none of this b.s. would be
this way. To me the fed only works 10 hours a week but gets paid for
40/week. Also, they must get all their food Comped by Presidents
Bush's policies. The Fed Gov and Reserve both blow. They are living in
the 40's when you could take your time respond. I'm sorry, but I can't
stand the bush adminstration either. What great policies they bought
us. Everything has been a cover up and Bush will go down as the
dumbest president ever elected. That's why I voted both times for
Democratics, but lost. They might have not been the best choice, but
they were definitely better than Bush. The Great white hunter (Chaney)
should of shot Bush.

Any Comments?

I agree this might be lot due to rumors but my friends who said Stock
Market woks on logic, OH it does as long as people use logic. This is
money my man no one trusts others with their money, not even banks as
they didn't  today, as they won't next week and in coming
months..........There is so much of good stuff out there who wants
financials. You are playing with fire don't blame rumors or FEDS later
on.....there is only so much both can do. As far as my position I cant
wait for the market to go down at least it will bring oil down and
that my friend will sure help a hard working JOE on the main street.
Its fun watching market slowly accepting reality. Carry on
stocks......it wont be too painful too lose some worth!

Rumored out of business???  If it looks like a duck, quacks like a
duck....well, you know.
BSC is just the beginning.  Housing was at over five times incomes on
the average across the nation.  Price to rent was out of control.
(Still is)  Assume housing is a stock, it would have been trading at
over 35 times earnings!  A major correction was in order, and guys
like BSC were leveraged to the hilt in this stuff.  When BSC fails,
and their assets are marked to market, we will know how bad this is.
