Well now, there's a common joke some investors say is "If I lose a
million it only means I've had a million to lose". Don't fret, just
continue investing as you normally do and hope for the best.

That's painful, but why in the world would you have been long on
Bear?  Remember, you can make money on both sides of a trade.  You
could have easily made $50K today by being short.  NEVER try to pick a
bottom.  It's not worth it.

If you were long because you believed the CEO a couple of days ago,
you just learned a lesson that you should always keep with you on
every trade:  Management (especially in financial firms) will ALWAYS
do what's best for them, not you, and you CANNOT trust them.

Seriously, if you have $100K (or now $50K) or more to invest, don't go
after the challenging stocks.  There are many great companies that
continue to chug along making money that have been dragged down by the
general downturn.  Find them and profit.

Great, I'd suggest WMT being a good focus. the market beatings are
great, just wait a bit more and buy it when it's lower. A mutilation
to the bearish, that's the fundamental to trading. (buy low, sell
high)

The stock was down 40% today because no one knows if Bear is worth
anything at this point.  To stay in and hope is the wrong thing to
do.  The CEO lied two days ago about Bear's financial health.  No one
knows the real situation with the company.

You have to cut your losses.  Don't throw good money after bad.

Condolences on your losses.  I assume that in the past you sought
advice relative to Bear.  Look how imprudent that looks now.  Ergo,
trust only yourself.  Anytime this sort of catastrophic dip in stock
occurs on a FRIDAY based on a company's liquidity concerns Monday will
usher in "an orderly wind-down".  What does that mean?  Those holding
common stock will be left holding the bag...an empty bag.  We all hope
that the past will not repeat itself.  But......

The CEO didn't lie 3 days ago. There's a difference between liquidity
and the value of their assets. Bear's drop is due to panic...everyone
thought Bear was having a liquidity crisis 2 days ago and it became a
self fulfilling prophecy. Have you ever heard of a run on the bank?
Their market cap after today's drop is 3.54B. Do you really  their CEO
would reconfirm earnings estimates and move their earnings forward to
Monday if they will confirm he was concealing information last week.

BSC was un able to be borrowed for shorting and its been that way for
days so no one was opening up new shorts today, yesterday, or this
week and last.

Savvy investors were short on Bear long, long ago (no pun intended).
The rebound to $125 was an obvious entry point.

If it's true, then I don't feel so bad about losing a few thousand
since October.

Learned my lesson though - no more speculation on financials for me...

Anyway why would you invest in a company in the financial sector with
a P/E of 50?
and an EPS of only .60?  Combine that with forward looking decline in
profits is a recipe for disaster.

A CEO prevaricating????  That is simply unheard of.  They are the very
symbols of probity!

Do you, honestly, believe, that the way Mr. Schwartz replied to
questions posed by David Faber of CNBC earlier this week did not
portend impending doom?

How much of their alleged market cap will be disbursed to shareholders
when Bear ceases as an ongoing entity?  Any Enron shareholders out
there to help us do some math?

$4B of wealth just evaporated into the ether today.  Anyone who thinks
NOW that Alan Schwartz actually believed that there was no liquidity
problem two days ago, should buy BSC on the cheap and get rich.  Oh,
and I've got a classic mint condition 1985 Ford Escort I'll sell you
for $50,000 too.  It's a steal at that price, and it's only going to
appreciate.

DO YOU KNOW WHAT THIS PROVES? As things changes, laws need to change.
You CANT YELL FIRE IN A CROWDED MOVIE THEATER AND CAUSE PEOPLE TO GET
TRAMPLED TO DEATH. Freedom of Speech does not cover that. Some moral-
deficient shorted this stock and then colluded with a few others to
get it to tank. The paper trail will be found, the FBI will get
involved and they WILL BE BROUGHT TO JUSTICE AND SENT TO JAIL.

This proves nothing new. GO TO ANY BANK IN ANY COUNTRY. IF EVERY
DEPOSIT HOLDER SHOWS UP ON THE SAME DAY AND WANTS THEIR MONEY BACK, IT
ISN'T POSSIBLE. This was a disaster.

I've been with Fidelity Investments for 12 years, and ONLY THEM except
for a checking account with NCNB which later became Bank of America. I
consider my duty as an American to not act like an idiot. I don't
smoke, i won't own stock in tobacco companies. I am gonna take 1/10th
of my net worth ($40K) and put it in Bear Stearns on Monday.

Some person yelled fire in a theater, I AM GOING TO STAND ON MY SEAT
AND SCREAM AT THE TOP OF MY LUNGS: THERE IS NO FIRE, STAY CALM.
EVERYONE STAY CALM. I guess it's easy for me to say because the first
$100K is protected right? If it isn't then I cannot say i would be so
brave. HOWEVER....if the first 100K is protected then i would like to
see 10,000 or 100,000 people put 40K or 50K or whatever into this
company.....JP Morgan wouldn't even have time to rifle through their
books.

IF ALL AMERICANS DID THIS ON MONDAY MORNING, THE PROBLEM WOULD BE
SOLVED BY LUNCH!!!! WHAT A MESSAGE, WHAT A SHOW OF UNITY........WHAT
AN EXAMPLE TO SET TO THE WORLD!  Of course all of this big talk is
based on the idea that the first 100K of deposits are protected.

I am sickened at how some short-selling conman floated a rumor and
brought down this company.....GRANTED the rumor worked because of
their weakened status due to sub-prime mistakes.....

Comments?

First of all dummy, it's LURED not ALLURED.......second of all, you
aren't a real man until you've lost tens of thousands of dollars in
one day.

Finally, i don't know if your greatest accomplishment out there in the
midwest was scoring a touchdown in a big game in high school, or maybe
it was marrying your cousin who was the prom queen in 1997.......but
when you build a company that has a market cap of 400B and operates in
every sector in every country in the world, THEN YOU CAN CALL THEM
CRAPPY.....but until then, keep your job changing oil at the local
generic jiffyLube.

Short sellers traded 150% of BSC float? You my friend are stupid and
ignorant. Shorts have to buy back at some point. Going long is a much
easier way of market manipulation. The sky is the limit. When people
short sell they can send a share price down. Unless it keeps that
momentum, which it won't if the market is as healthy as you would
suggest, the short seller is in deep shit. Considering today's volume
and your so called "analysis", if you are right then we should find
these people and praise them for being so brave.

The people colluding are the people keeping this dead market up. The
Dow should be a lot lower than current levels. As usual America is
using ignorance as it's primary weapon. The rest of the world knows
the US is headed for a recession. They are staring at your house
watching it burn down while you sit inside saying it is not on fire.

At the end of the day if you are long on financials your opinion is
worthless. Financials are screwed. You are trying to catch 10 falling
knives. You have no credibility.

Everyone with half a brain knows that the US is heading to a
recession. Sadly not everyone here has half a brain if you base it on
who's reporting the news in TV here. LOL
