For everyone concerned about VMware using code that is locked-in to
Open Source licenses:

VMware Server 5.3 and prior worked on the FreeBSD OS, which is
released under a BSD license.

It would (and ultimately, will) be trivial to port ESX to a FreeBSD
kernel.
I know VMware on BSD is a highly-requested feature already, VMware is
a smart company with a good head on its shoulders. This is a GROWTH
market, especially with technologies like Sun Blackbox coming to
market:
