i wonder what that technology might be...?

this could be a game changer for U.S. coal production, although their
cash flow won't be awesome for a little bit while they're ramping up.

Clarify as to what "technology" you're alluding to. Perhaps you are
referring the coal plant refit?

Dynegy is basically being forced (by the govt) to modernize every one
of its
coal plant's to cut down on pollution and meet regulatory standards.
Legislation
for this has passed or will pass in the near future...either way, it's
being done.

At a cost of $1 billion it's very expensive and adds no extra benefit
other than cutting down on pollutants. There's no magical increase in
efficiency (in fact, the opposite may be true). It's simply a giant
sunk cost of 1 billion.

They might as well have just stopped fueling their plants with coal
and started shoveling one billion dollar bills
in the coal pit instead. Same difference.

Though I'd love for someone to tell me I'm wrong.

Erik, you're probably right. however, dynegy's logo also appeared on
Calera's website, as a "partner," which leads to the possibility that
in the next year or two dynegy could get involved in the cement sales/
carbon credit sales business (if that legislation ever gets off the
ground). . . of course, that is only really a possibility if they
haven't spent all their money addressing other environmental concerns.
note the relevant website below:
