Yet another wafer company buying into the solar field?

Curious to me that not a peep has been made on this board about the
recently announced deal between MEMC and SunEdison... How do WFR
stockholders feel about this acquisition? Is this gonna be a good deal
for MEMC or not? Does anybody know if SunEdison is a solid company or
not? Seems like a case of attention deficit disorder in the management

Bought in at 15.87 cuz it looked like the lower range of what the
stock has done however now its getting killed and im down a ton...
sold 15 calls for 50 cents to mitigate losses somewhat but still..
this is bad and doesnt bode well for solar industry in general

P/E is at 12, not that low buy cost savings of layoffs should help in

i agree, this drop is unwarranted. most analysts are a hold or buy on
this, recent upgrades to 23 range and earnings, though not stellar,
beat the street and most importantly, had positive forecasts, all
things considered. in any event, it should hover here and go up,
hopefully..

earnings release....well I think it was just way too overbought over
the last couple of days and that's why they thrashed it on earnings
news. I would recommend loading up the truck here....

What news? I don't know that I see anything bad from the headlines;
most other solar stocks are up 5+ points today.

I'm not sure you can conclude that WFR follows FSLR as
WFR is making the silicon Wafers used in solar and I believe FSLR is
not producing the wafers.

FSLR may benefit from the downturn in Silicon wafer prices whereas WFR
will not.

However if the low prices of silicon, bankrupt some of the smaller

WFR is going to follow FSLR

It is surprising that WFR has not seen the restoration of share price
that other solar companies have. FSLR is now $200.00 a share after
being beaten down. WFR which was resently over $70.00 is hanging
around a mere $17.00.
It looks like a superior speculative play all the way to the $20's.

Any truth to the rumor? If you look at the new CEO's resume, it could
support that is the Board intention. Some personnel/workforce
decisions have been construed as further evidence. What's the
liklihood that this is possible/likely? Any scenarios that this can

agree. I also think this is worst case. They have had great profits
from solar Si with a lot of spot price silicon sold, and less volume
covered by longterm contracts like LDK.

guidance is awful... but it would seem that it could be baked into the
price already.

appreciate the share. This stock is fairly risky, but it's so cheap
right now and it's a good company with advantages that other
semiconductor companies don't have I think they are worth owning.

Traders short on WFR should pop the graph out to
all data and then think about the risk/reward ratio
which comes with being short, and the risk/reward
realities of staying long. The potential losses for
short positions are catastrophic, and the potential
gains for longs are pure platinum.

That's actually a reasonable estimate. Bought in today. I like the
company and the price was too low to resist. Everyone's lowering
guidance. Right now it's silly to dump shares of a company that lowers
its guidance when other companies are doing the same, either lowering
guidance, cutting production, or both.

WFR misses the solar boom in its entirety. It's not a solar play by
any means. Ex-CEO didn't know what was happening in energy aka solar
space. It's too late for WFR as industry grows. It's a cheap stock. It
should go up on valuatoin basis but retail neither care nor
understoood the valuation.

Bottom line...............the solar market is just getting started,
and this is a good co. to be with as solar grows..........which it
most certainly will. (While I'm thinking of it............Vestas Wind
Systems is another renewable energy source on the brink of big
growth.......IMHO)

- New CEO will determine what will be the company's strategy in the
face of solar's downturn. As poly prices approach cash cost, should
they continue their expansion plan (up to 15000 metric ton in 2009) or

Not to worry jash, as long as you're going long that is. I got in at
13.50 and expect double digit returns in a year or
two............maybe sooner. It's all good..these guys are much more
than a "commodity broker in the solar market"
