The more progressive country will be the one which admits it is NOT
all powerful and can do no wrong but admits it can use the help and
assistance and IP, too, for that matter, of others not resident in
their country.

I have more faith in Korea doing that than I do in Japan.

Samsung vs Canon - my bet is that Samsung will do, while Canon will
not.

The patents state" conductive material" and not "carbon". Plus. Canon
is excluded from carbon nanotubes in the agreement. Am I wrong?

I read the article this way. We have developed a better technology and
have no interest in NPI's technology even though we were ready to
release the sets and we are going to continue the court case and we
spent a fortune to ramp up to this point plus we are not saying what
the new technology is, where it came from or where the patents are.

Give me a break.  This is an admission of weakness. This is totally
bullish for NPI.

Check out the article

What we don't want to see is: There is no next Gen Panel for several
years, litigation is cancelled and we are declaring a tax loss of xxxx
billion Yen. Then we go to Samsung.

$30-40 dollar range in a few more years! :)

Well, here is your announcement. A page out of patent haggeling 101.

1. Put out a p.r. stating you have developed away arround the problem
with a superior technology.

Warning :  This could result in the RIM experience infront of a US
Jury costing nearly 1 billion $$$$.

But the wheel we reinvented is rounder your honour..   Show me the
patents!
