I just bought this stock today for $5.47 per share (1000 shares), and
by the end of the day I already lost $600. How's E*Trade future going
to be? Will this company go bankrupt?

Just hang in there. Most of us saw large losses. It's only been a day.
E-trade is always all over the place. Up and down up and down. Just
ride it out. I bought 4500 shares for more than you paid. At first you
might be stressed out but eventually you just realize that you have
time to wait and relax. Don't get scared if it goes down even farther.
Just observe with calmness and be patient.

The B-word is not even worth mentioning. It's highly unlikely at this
point.

I've got Jan. 08 call options @ 20. Glad I got rid of all my etfc
stock.

The gist of the deal (from the Reuters article at the top of this
thread):

"Citadel is the clear winner in this transaction," Bank of America
analyst Michael Hecht said in a research note titled "Xmas comes early
for Citadel, shareholders get lump of coal."

Hecht said Citadel's deal gives it a $3 billion asset-backed
securities book for 27 cents on the dollar and $1.75 billion of
secured paper at 12.5 percent -- and 84 million shares of stock "for
nothing."

Hecht said shareholders, in contrast, "suffer (more than) 40 percent
earnings per share dilution and 100 percent tangible equity dilution."

After E*Trade took large losses in its mortgage segment, analysts said
it would have to pursue strategic alternatives, such as the sale of
some assets or a takeover by larger rivals like Charles Schwab Corp
(SCHW.O: Quote, Profile , Research) or TD Ameritrade Holding Corp
(AMTD.O: Quote, Profile , Research).

E*Trade said it considered a tie-up with a peer company but the
Citadel deal appeared best. Analysts were not convinced.

At short term, you are screwed... in long term it might recover.

Etrade still doesn't have an estimation on potential mortgage losses.
Some estimates are out for citigroup losses ($11 billion for next
quarter), but etrade still doesn't have any estimates.. why do you
think shwab or amritrade didn't buy any stake in etrade. Though
etrade's brokerage unit is excellent, they are totally screwed with
their mortgages..so deal didn't go through.... do you think $2.5
billion infusion will save etrade in short term..

So don't expect any gains in next quarter...its gonnabe worst for
etrade.  Analyst estimates that next quarter is going to be the worst
for all financial.

So hold on to it atleast for an year now...

after hours is trades happening after hours. ...Basically it is
possible, with certain trading platforms, to trade after the market
closes. and also before market opening times.

I got in at 5.55 today thinking I was picking near the bottom (at
least resistance), I should have watched and waited, could have done
alot better. Now I'm with the rest of the pack, praying for a miracle.
Maybe tomorrow I'll take my loss and go somewhere else, this stock is
maddening, possibly go bet on sirius.

The sad fact is that Citadel Investments is one of those bottom
feeders that buys distressed companies or their assets. I fear this is
a bad deal for ETrade (12.5% interest - Yikes!) and the shareholders
(20% stock dilution). Given some time it might become an attractive
merger or acquisition; but if not, then I'm afraid it's bye-bye.

I jumped out early to make a 20% profit in one day of trading.  I will
probably regret it.  I plan on jumping back in once my trade settles,
if it is not too late.

I jumped in around 5.55/share for 700shares. I believe it will go up
tonight. I won't sell till it goes +7.5.

MICHAEL-

Before wasting our time, please using this exciting new tool
called.....GOOGLE.  If you don't understand something, GOOGLE IT!
Don't rely on one person on a random post who you dont even know for
you finances.

Also, please tell everyone you are a novice when you say things like
"I don't think it'll rise tomorrow. Bad news all day today will make
the price goes even lower tomorrow.."  When you don't even know what
AFTER HOURS TRADING is... you shouldnt be giving advice.  People take
these boards seriously.

If I were you, I would go get a book or take a course, or even go
through a tutorial through TD Ameritrade, Scwab, or eTrade on stocks
in general.  Until then, take your money out of the stock market and
save yourself.  Make up an portfolio on Yahoo or Google and pretend to
invest until you have more experience.
