Just trying to make sense of this. Is it a short squeeze?

Surely a component of this is a squeeze.  But also, when it went down
increasingly fast,  people who considered investing just stopped
placing orders, staying on the sidelines and see what happens next and
how low it go.  Once it stops falling,  shorts do not see what they
want to see and may either cover or wait and hope,  this gives a
support.  The patient buyers affraid then decide to gradually get in.
Also brokers reports for a couple days progressively underlined the
overdoing of the selloff following ING story and low valuations by the
markets.  This sets the stage for the rebound.  And at 12$ IRE is
still cheap.  Maybe it will go down tomorrow, but it won't be because
of me selling if it does so.

Thanks. What's your target price? And what would you say is the major
distinction between this and say, citibank.

My personal target price is 16, then I'm out.  Difference between this
stock and citigroup, first thing is not 30% owned by the government,
second is not as massive as C and problems can turn around easily, C
is a beast and I think it will be fine and also a good investment 1
year for now, it will be improved and strong

Yes.

If it fails, they will nationalize it.  Anglo Irish Banks is too big
to fail too and was nationalized.
