When you bought at $4.70 why did you buy it?

I bought at $4.5 because I thought the risk of a downside is small, I
think the price is being held down by bad news, the US Govt is
supporting C, and hope to sell C around $5 in the next few months.

On the other hand I know it is a speculative stock and likely to stay
between $3.50 and $4.50 for a while.

Start thinking of when to buy more to average down!  I bought some at
$4.50 and bought more when it was $3.90.  However, I will not buy till
it hits $3.25 or below.  You have to protect your losses by averaging
down to get back even quicker.

On the side note, C is definitely a long term stock.  We should be
lucky if we see it go $5 this year or Q1 2010.

I know how you feel, I once bought at $4.89 and was glad to sell it at
$4.97.  Just have patience if its down now it may come up again too.
I do see some positive news coming every once in a while.  As the
economy gets better so will the price of this stock.  If you can go
ahead and buy some more when the stock price is low, to average it
out... Good Luck!

These posts are hilarious.
If you are long (as in 1-2 years), why are you bothering to follow
this stock this forum?

You bought at 4.50 because you thought the downside was small and
wanted to sell at 5?!!
That's only an 11% gain. What did you think the downside was?

Not hilarious but sad. Too many people are clueless about the company
& the fundamentals of stock investing. They are here to gamble,
pinning their hopes on a quick killing by playing this on a daily
basis. For these people, here is my modest read fwiw: Citi is the ONLY
truly global bank with the kind of clout that takes several
generations of goodwill to develop, in C's case over a 100 yrs.
Goodwill & trust are what drives international banking. Citi's health
& well being is of great importance to many governments around the
world, not just the US. They will support C in the short term and C
will pay them back asap. In the medium term ( 1-2 yrs) C's
fundamentals should cause it to trade at $12-$15 based on current and
expected book values.  In the long term (3-5 yrs), when the economies
are chugging along, it should be back in the $30 range. In the mean
time, there is uncertainty and static from all corners, but the basics
will not change. Upshot: if you want a great long term investment, buy
C and watch the news, not the stock. If you want to lose a lot of
money, daytrade the heck out of it. Just my 2 cents.

I would totally agree with Victor that C is certainly a long term
buy.  Load up while it is still under $4!

C is stuck right around $4 for a long, long time.  The fact that it's
not participating with the market rally makes it evident that C is not
going to move very much on the up days and on the down days, this
stock will get crushed.

This is heavily manipulated. I think GS is holding it down to 4.02 and
picking up shares on the cheap. If someone noticed it was at 4.05 and
then it suddenly dropped to 4.02. Not to 4.04 or 4.03 but right down
to 4.02. Then they picked up around 30 million shares. Everyone
connected with GS are crooks.

Raj,
Why so down on GS? Surely there are crooks in GS, but in other
companies also. Just wondering.

Raj, you should stop drinking the conspiracy kool-aid and research a
bit.  Have you ever heard of the term "iceberging" with regard to algo
(algorithmic) trading?  It's not manipulation, rather technology, and
it has been around a lot longer than you might think, as in 50 or more
years, just that in this century the technology executes in the blink
of an eye.  Although the article below does not get too deep into
iceberging, the concept is simple.  Ship captains know that when they
see surface ice formations in certain oceans the risk of an iceberg is
imminent.  In the same way big traders planning a huge trade put on a
"small" position to test the water; if the stock begins to move in the
direction intended the algo sets the remainder of the trade, in
increments, in milliseconds.  Capturing even 0.005 on a trade of 50M
shares is quite a gain.

A good read:
