I think this stock might hit 40 way before gold gets anywhere close to
1200.

You have a winner here. However, AU offers no dividends, so I would
wait for gold to hit 1200 and this stock to hit 40 bucks then I will
sell.

No dividends is a killer. There are gold companies with better growth
potential and with 10 percent dividends that i would buy.

Fast MACD (Moving Average Convergence Divergence) moved to positive
territory, therefore it seeps that AU could be a strong momentum play
here as well.
Fast MACD crossed over the Slow MACD on 3-17-2006 with the stock
closing at 50.16, or down -$.14 on the day. Now the stock closed at
