And if you want an anaology using an compound similar to co2, let look
at it's counterpart o2, or oxygen. Yes an 18% o2 level (roughly) in
our atmosphere gives breath to many forms of life on earth. HOWEVER
raise those levels even slighlty and the earth is potentially
combustible since o2 is highly flammable. In fact for those of us not
stupid enough to believe the earth is a few thousand years old, for
many billions of years life as we know it was not possible because of
the noxious levels of co2, co, o2 and many other of these gases idiots
think are "safe."

Where do idiots like you come from? I love this assinine argument that
co2 isn't dangerous because it aides plants in photosynthesis. I mean
how stupid can you be? Try growing a plant in a room using co2 tanks
and release slightly higher amounts. You may notice that the plant
becomes extremely dark green shortly before the leaves curl over and
the plant dies. Let make an analogy with fire. Yes fire is a helpful
natural occurance. You can cook with it, heat a dwelling, or use fire
to form materials. On the flipside too much uncontrolled burn and
there will be trouble. Too much fire and your food will be ruined,
your house will burn down or you will destroy any material you are
molding. The same apples for co2; in smaller concentrations which
occur naturally it can aide flora but artificially accelerate those
levels slightly and you will suffocated plants.

Look I personally think "global warming" is not at all concrete
science and has become a platform for many democrats, which only
further polarizes it, and I am not sure of the impact human
consumption of fossil fuels has on the earth, but that is beside the
point because the human toll of our energy use is what is most
alarming. The plant meltdown at Chernobyl killed thousands, destroyed
a city for centuries and that almost happened in the US at 3-Mile
Island which would have had far greater devastation. Or how about the
needless deaths
and wars all in our quest to secure energy sources in regions of
severe conflict? Beyond that there are oil spills that kill marine
life, oil leaking and dumping that seeps into public ground water and
so much more.

Like I said the jury is undecided on the facts of "global warming" but
there is not debating the danger of oil consumption and an
overabundance of co2 being a harmful.

Lies about solar energy still make the headlines, while reality is
ignored. Viable energy alternatives are only a matter of desire, not a
matter of technology. Everything is there, ready to go. Everything,
that is, except the will.

Yes, the Will to Power now has new meaning.

All we have to do is reach out and pluck the fruit dangling ripe
before us. Perhaps it is a bit obscured by the smog produced by
present energy forms or the affects of their fumes on people's brains,
but it is available nonetheless.

they aren't.  how many fatalities have there been in the US or France
from
nuclear reactor meltdowns?
just about zero.
we've been putting people in underwater enclosed containers with
nuclear reactors since the fifties without incident in the reactor.

> AS IF maintaining nuclear plants 24/7/365 forever, despite rain, snow,
> hurricanes, earthquakes, strikes, etc. could be assured...

it can and has been.  it would create high-tech jobs to do what you
are saying.
and you are neglecting that i said nuclear is not a permanent option,
but a bridge option.

> AS IF storing nuclear waste were not insurmountably dangerous...

it has been proven that it can be easily and safely stored.
if it were "insurmountable" like you claim then there would be total
and complete failure to dispose of nuclear waste.
that is not the case, especially with rapidly advancing technology.

> AS IF batteries were the only means of storage...

and the other feasible, large-scale, 275 terawatt grid system options
are...?

> AS IF national security counted for nothing...

ask france, russia and us about that, how many nuclear plant attacks
have there been?

> AS IF centralized electrical power with extension cords running all
> over the place were beautiful...

infrastructure is already in place, no... um... extension cords
needed.  that's just silly.

> AS IF 15% of 1300 times more energy than we use were not already
> enough...

not the point at all.  the point is not to generate more electricity,
but to do it cleaner, cheaper and with less political instability.

> AS IF making and maintaining enemies in the world were not the result
> of present policies...

if you want to maintain these enemies, then yeah lets not go nuclear
and stay petrol.

> AS IF humans were incapable of accepting better alternatives...

nothing is as reasonable as nuclear power for such large-scale
operations at such a low cost.  that is a fact, as france as our
witness.
it is also a fact that renewable energy is not YET ready to be the
SOLE source of energy production, which you appear to be asserting.

AS IF we should keep our heads in the sand...  this is why we can't be
logical with things and progress like we should, people are overcome
by hollywood-induced, unrealistic and overblown, fear.
if you choose to neglect all logic and rationality, wish to fantasize
about renewable energy as 100% viable and feasible at this very second
for our entire power grid, then so be it, let's keep chugging oil.

i agree with you, and i agree more that petrol is something we should
step away form.

i am trying to point out, however, that we cannot be 100% renewable at
the moment.  it is logistically and feasibly impossible.  However, we
should aim to be renewable, so i think nuclear is a wonderful stepping
stone that immediately cuts our emissions drastically, reduces our
dependence on foreign oil, generates power much more cheaply, and is
very feasible for a mainstream generation method.  Now, of course
nuclear has risks and should not be relied on long-term.  I propose
that a percentage of the revenue from the nuclear plants be put
towards renewable research and construction and implementation into
the power grid.  That way we can be 100% emissions free (for power
plants), use way less foreign oil, rely less on unstable and terrorist
countries who often send our oil dollars to terrorists who want to
kill us, get cheaper electricity, invest in renewable generation
methods, and provide high-tech jobs for americans.

We just have to show americans the facts about how safe nuclear power
really is, which is extremely safe based on past evidence and
advancing technology.
