Subject: This came out 2 hours after my recommendation!!
Historically, tumultuous times offer some of the best opportunities to
unearth killer stocks, and the market's recent mess surely qualifies.
There aren't many stocks investors cite as golden opportunities today,
but many think major miner Barrick Gold (NYSE: ABX) is one of them.

In our Motley Fool CAPS community, about 94% of the 1,896 investors
rating the company are bullish, so there's no shortage of reasons why
Barrick Gold will thrive, three of which I've highlighted below.

But here at The Motley Fool, we're all for looking at both the good
and bad sides of an investment. Once you're done with this article,
you can read the case against the stock, weigh in with your own
comments below, or rate Barrick Gold yourself in CAPS.

1. Strong earnings
The rise in prices of gold and other commodities has helped Barrick,
other gold producers like IAMGOLD (NYSE: IAG), and miners like Hecla
Mining (NYSE: HL) and Coeur d'Alene Mines (NYSE: CDE) generate
stronger top-line numbers recently. And Barrick was able to convert
that top-line growth into record fourth-quarter earnings as well. The
strong operational discipline has some CAPS members bullish on the
direction the company is headed.

2. Rid of the hedge book
While producers like Newmont Mining (NYSE: NEM), Goldcorp (NYSE: GG),
and Yamana Gold (NYSE: AUY) have already taken unhedged positions,
Barrick Gold decided to get rid of its gold hedges last year. Some
investors see the move as an indication of Barrick's bullish stance on
long-term gold prices and like the upside potential it provides in a
scenario of rising gold prices -- a scenario many predict is likely
with the rate of U.S. government spending.

3. Huge reserves
With Barrick holding a massive amount of gold reserves that has grown
for the past four consecutive years, investors like the amount of
value that the company has yet to unleash. Barrick expects increasing
gold production this year and looks for lower total cash costs coming
from new production from lower-cost mines like Cortez Hills. And with
its reserves now all unhedged, many CAPS members believe the odds of
holding a market-beating investment in Barrick Gold are pretty
strong.

which can be a great buying opportunity.

Anyone catch Barron's article this weekend on how they're dumping
Freeport McMoran shares and jumping on Barrick shares.   They see $46
US very soon!

Many so-called expert analysts are saying Gold is dead and $1050 is
the next level, but USA is still in debt, rising unemployment (job #'s
were fudged), middle east want price oil in another currency, the
Chinese want protection from the greenback.  If this is the case
shouldn't gold go higher...   $1250 and up!

Oh and the Dubai debt crisis, Greece rating downgrade and other
potential Eastern European country credit rating downgrade should not
make the US$ a safe haven!

Any thoughts?

WHY IS AUSTRALIA BUYING IMF GOLD?

Analysts say one of the reasons why the Australia was buying gold from
the IMF was to shore up its gold holdings.

ABX - BUY SIGNAL

After seeing a strong pull back in GOLD and GOLD Stocks, the major up
trend looks to resume. We have seen today among several GOLD stocks
signs of a bottom within their current minor down trends. Today ABX
has given us a Hammer bottom pattern. This bottom pattern has occurred
after a strong bounce back up over its 50 day MA around $40.43. A move
higher tomorrow over $42 would confirm the bottom at which time the ~
$42.00 level could become the closest support level. Also, if this
occurs ABX could go as high as $45.50 where the next resistance level
stands and a move higher than that could send it back towards $48.00
and a STRONG BUY SIGNAL would be triggered with a new 52 week high. I
have taken a long position in ABX today as I managed to enter near the
50 day MA while seeing the Hammer bottom pattern occur. A strong move
below the 50 day MA would give us a STRONG SELL SIGNAL, but based on
yesterday's and today's move ABX looks more likely to be heading back
up, and taking a long position at current levels is relatively safe,
the fact that ABX is so close to its 50 day MA and -7% to -8% stop
loss order is very unlikely of being triggered. Basically I see a lot
more potential of seeing ABX move higher from here than downwards with
a lot of potential of providing a very decent return if the stock
actually does start moving higher again. I have also set a BUY STOP
order over $42.00 to double my current position.
