And then there is this http://green.autoblog.com/2009/11/26/chinese-government-sets-ambitiou...

"New regulations for the production of batteries, both nickel-hydrogen
and lithium-ion, have been submitted to China's State Council,
according to Wang Shulin, a National Development and Reform Commission
(NDRC)'s expert. China's current production figures for batteries are
expected to exceed 140,000 kWh (nickel) and 900,000 kWh (lithium) by
the end of this year. These figures are expected to reach 360,000 kWh
and 4 million kWh, respectively, for 2010. Bearing in mind that an
average EV might use a 30 kWh battery (see some examples here), up to
150,000 EVs could be powered by these new packs. Still, the NDRC
predicts there will be 100,000 electric cars by 2012 and 4 million in
2020."

FWIW my peculation is that CBAK will "soon" announce a deal with
Dongfeng, which partners with Nissan in China. Nissan has made quite a
few deals with various Chinese cities to work together on a roll out
of electric cars and a charging network. China would only allow that
if the cars were made and supplied locally. Unlikely that Nissan would
sub the local battery production to BYD as they are seen as the major
EV competitor, and really only CBAK has the capacity to handle that
kind of order otherwise.

By soon I DO NOT mean at the CC but it will be implied there.

This http://finance.yahoo.com/news/Profiting-From-Chinas-5Year-indie-16325...
might be part of it.

"According to Bloomberg, the world's largest producer of greenhouse
gasses is looking to cut back on its environmental impact potentially
to the tune of $454 billion in spending over the next five years.
Investors are rushing to place bets on potential beneficiaries,
sending select Chinese names higher by double-digit percentages.

Century Securities analyst Yan Biao told Bloomberg, "The increase in
spending will benefit equipment manufacturers in water treatment, air
pollution control, and also developers in the renewable energy
sector." ... Chinese components of the Energy Storage and Battery
Technology Stocks Index are also surging today. China BAK Battery
(NASDAQ: CBAK - News) is setting the pace with a 16% spike."

CBAK has placed a big bet. They have built it, now does a Chinese EV
market come? The Chinese government's placing this kind of money
behind making China an environmentally responsible country (or at
least looking like one) is a good sign that this government favored
company's bet will bear fruit.

If they can follow up with a good CC we may see a nice sustainable run
up.

BZCN is starting the amazing holiday run.  BZCN has had huge volume
and buying going on.  BZCN had a nice pull back right before close
yesterday and is a great entry point today.  Last year around January
this stock hit 12 cents.  Even if we only get to 5 cents this year
that will be more then a 5000% gain.
ZCN provides liquidation services for may companies by freeing up
warehouse space by taking those products and selling them at a higher
price on EBAY.  BZCN also opened up a new store called Luckys & which
sells some of that merchandise at discounted prices.  Sort of like
our
ROSS and our TJMAX stores here.  BZCN is in the growth phase and is
increasing its sales.  BZCN is a great way for customers and
businesses to save money especially during a recession and a holiday
season.  Do some DD on BZCN and I am sure you will find this stock is
going to be one you will want to own for the next few months.  It has
huge volume and buying pressure and is looking really good these
days.

This also of note - http://www.greencarcongress.com/2009/11/china-20091123.html#more

"Regulations on the development of “new energy” vehicles have been
submitted to China’s State Council for approval and are expected to be
officially in effect in March 2010, according to a report in Gasgoo
citing the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC). ...
According to the expectation from the NDRC, the amount of pure
electric vehicles in China will reach 100,000 units in 2012 and climb
to 4,000,000 units in 2020.

Separately, the Nikkei reported that Nissan is considering building
the Leaf EV in the Chinese city of Guangzhou."

Make of it what you will.

IF one believes that the global economy is mortally wounded then sure.
IF OTOH one sees that China is recovering nicely and, the dear to our
hearts and perceptions but in truth lagging indicator unemployment
figures aside, the US is coming out the other side as well, then this
- http://www.reuters.com/article/earth2Tech/idUS372329544620091119 -
would make you want to be positioned in a company that has the
capacity to produce lots of high power batteries quickly and that has
the Chinese government's ear.

"President Obama and Chinese President Hu Jintao this week launched a
joint effort to “reduce oil dependency, cut greenhouse gas emissions
and promote economic growth” through accelerated deployment of
electric vehicles ... "

True, the company isn't about protecting short term gains in the
market. It's about creating long term value and positioning itself to
deliver in a big way over time. If you are a trader, get out. But if
you have a longer term view - boy, this one is one to hang on to!

This company has proved over a long time now that it is not able to
protect the stockholders money.
The economy is so damaged that it will not survive.

Great thoughts and ideas smod, but you and all the other thinking
people know that the gas car, the gas bus, the gas motor scooter and
etc are going to decline from now on. GENERAL MOTORS BANKRUPT , No one
ten years ago , except maybe Warren or Bill, would have thought it
possible... I'd love to see an overnight shift, but we both know that
it'll be a gradual change, but that that change will happen is
guaranteed. No one wants to be beholdin to the middle east, that 3rd
century consciousness is...well....outdated. Using petroleum to fuel
things is becoming outdated as well. As the Dali Lama so aptly put
it....it is old fashined thinking,...out of date. as time goes one,
more and more people and cultures will put their finger on the "off"
button for fossil thinking and fossil fuel. Solar, wind, and other
chemistry we have yet to uncover is the future. A lightning bolt can
power NYC for a week, one day, we'll harness that energy, not while
you and I are here, but if you can dream it, it can happen. So...CBAK
and anything tied to the future will ride in on a golden chariot
someday sooner than we think. One just has to be able to see into the
future...like...okay, I'll stop

Man that guy is long winded....too much coffee :l)

Hi Robyn-

Just read an interesting article and found something noteworthy to
pass along:

Recently, BYD was touted in an investment newsletter. What I found
interesting was (supposedly) their big advantage is the cheap human
labor component:

"The big innovation from BYD was not in some radical redesign of the
battery...but in using people instead of robots, taking advantage of
what remains, at least for now, China’s largest resource: cheap labor.
The big Japanese manufacturing robots were too expensive, so Wang
figured out how to re-engineer the battery manufacturing process to
use migrant workers instead of robots in order to cut costs, and
became a major supplier to cell phone, laptop and other
manufacturers."

http://www.stockgumshoe.com/2009/11/what-is-the-locked-down-lithium-p...

Juxtapose that with this quote from Mao Huanyu's (then CBAK CTO, now
GM of the Tianjin facility) speech at the China Energy Conference last
May:

"I think we need to get rid of the hand making method and go for full
automation for conformity. There are over 20 tech specs and many
production procedures in LiFeFO4 battery making. Batteries need to go
through all specs and procedures with conformity, for long life cycle
purpose. Automation in production is necessary therefore, unlike
mobile phone batteries where a single cell will do the job."

Remember, some of these EV battery packs are comprised of 5K to over
10K LiFeFO4 batteries. If they don’t conform with one another, you get
bad headlines like several manufacturers found out the hard way. This
could very well be CBAK's competitive advantage longer term against a
much larger company like a BYD.

As of last May, CBAK had 16 coating machines purchased for $1.5M each
along with 71 winding machines at $350K each in their fully automated
production line. That alone represents a $50MM investment for 2 steps
in a 20 step automated production process. Last month, the Chinese
government put their seal of approval on the Tianjin facility for
meeting their standardized guidelines.

What the naysayers point to is CBAK’s debt and TTM numbers. To me,
that lacks vision and is driving while looking in the rearview mirror.
What I see is a company that is investing in its future by building up
the infrastructure and production capacity that will be the engine to
drive the companies’ future revenues, earnings and growth.

You would think, however a lot of people buy stocks to make money or
at least feel like some equity is building up given risk constraints
etc. The steep drop has likely caused a bit of a panic as people
unload losses and look for opportunities that seem a little more
'rational'. Share price in a money losing company with a brilliant
future in real world products, unlike a google or facebook which can
grow phenomenally in a short time, take time to mature and is subject
to the faith of its investors and perception of the market place.

Electric cars depend on the price of oil going up, but rising oil
prices crash economies... government money is needed to ease the
transition, where is the Chinese equivalent of TARP?
