Subject: Gatehouse's Internet Problem
Here is a quick explanation of why Gatehouse stock is down more than
95% in the last 12 months: their top online guy, Howard Owens, spends
more time out of the office, unreachable and writing his own blog
about his views on life, www.howardowens.com, than he spends time
trying to figure out to reverse the company's financial plunge. His
boss, Bill Blevins, likewise does nothing. If you have not already
lost your fortune on Gatehouse, remember that Journal Register stock
hit $0.10 before major shareholders unloaded it, so there's still time
to recover your last nickel.

Your stock is down from $5.50 to $0.44 in three months, so don't you
think it is time to give Howard the pink slip Gateway? Here a link
that discusses why it is time for Howard to go....

Let me try to understand; you own an IT company in china and you are
trashing GHS because the guy who heads their IT department has a blog
and will not buy your software?

I own a chunk of GHS and part of a company who bought one of their
newspapers about a year ago; to me your "logic" is faulty; or am I
missing something?

Do you plan to also trash WPO, NYT, MEG and GCI or do you do business
with them; looks like their stocks are doing about the same thing as
GHS?

look at the earning's report "GateHouse Media revenues continued to
outperform its newspaper peers, which averaged double-digit revenue
declines".

Jeff,
I worked with Howard Owens and Bill Blevins for a year when I was at
GateHouse Media New England.

We had some heated and passionate disagreements as is often the case
between local properties and Corporate. I found Howard to be a hard
working and knowledgable memeber of the team. Our industry is going
through some radical changes but the newspaper business model is still
a viable and good one. The turmoil we are going through now will cause
us to finally act or go away. Those papers that are pro active will
survive!

Howard and Bill have done some very innovative things online.
Including converting over 125 newspaper web sites in New England to a
new web platform in under 90 days. The news staffs were also enabled
with video capability at the same time.

The newspaper model is still a good one. We have to make radical
changes and some of us will. Your putting the blame for this on one
person and focusing on one company is very short sighted and shallow!

It's not clear who will survive the coming storm but the ones who do
can learn some valuable lessons from an entraprenurial company like
GateHouse. As well as Bill Blevins and Howard Owens.
