It's interesting that your group found PWRM before it exploded.  I
had
to search for the group but found it here in case anyone is
interested:  http://groups.google.ca/group/market-mafia?hl=en

One of the most powerful and elite investment groups is ready to
launch yet another company to be profiled. These are the individuals
who have been on top of HTDS and BIEL during their 1000%+ gains in the
past, and now comes a new stock with similar potential. It follows in
those foot steps in that it is one of the top heavily shorted
companies, it is within the small cap medical industry, and has
recently released results for the third quarter. During this current
period, the company reported increased revenues of nearly 100% from
the same quarter last year, and as well managed to decrease expenses
by over 50% during that same period.
News is coming, are YOU ready for the company?

From the market reaction it looks like this Dubai thing may blow over.
But I got to admit, looking at what has been going on with the
Japanese and Chinese stock exchanges, I just wonder.  What is going
on? Last week when LDK hit 9.50 as Palla noted, and when STP jumped to
over 16, I was feeling relief that we may actually be out of the
woods. But then the Dubai thing hit, and I was looking at Deutsch Bank
and its exposure, and going.. Jesus what the hell. In the case of GS
(and I agree with Yonil on this), the problem remains that money is
flowing out of a quality financial stock.. but where is it going? And
who is doing the heavy selling? And why? I heard there was a lot of
insider selling.. and if that is true, I am very worried. With the
stock market going up, the prospects of GS making a ton of money this
quarter is again strong. But if the insiders are selling, it makes me
believe the other shoe is about to fall off quicker than we may all be
ready for. And that other shoe is probably commercial real estate
(like Dubai).

It really sucks... Of course a lot of money can be made by buying
bearish ETFs if the market really does tank. But it sucks anyway,
because as Palla noted.. solars really do get beat up hard during
serious downdrafts...

East -
I read about this on Wednesday and remember thinking 'that's a lot of
shmoola' but the markets didn't seem to react so I blew it off.  BAC
is saying today that the major effect could be focussed on emerging
markets .. but still, it's all global and the ripples move quickly
across the entire world.   GS has taken a bigger hit than usual over
the last 7 days so it looks like you're right some one knowing
something.  It the markets tank, you can bet LDK will lead the pack
and be back below 5 in no time.  I almost got excited on Monday when
it spiked up to 9.50 and then regained my composure when it rapidly
plunged back down.

Jesus Christ.. are we headed for a double dip here? Dubai has blown up
the markets. I saw a figure around 80 billion in default... and  even
worse there was some chatter of how that 80 Billion may be bigger
because of some credit swap scheme...

Anyway, this is bad news.... Merrill was worth 50 billion, and they
say if Merrill had gone under, the market would have completely
collapsed. Here we are possibly faced with an 80 billion default.

So here is the twist... Goldman Sachs I bet has a huge exposure to
Dubai. And GS has been going down steady for several weeks. This had
been unfolding slower than the media makes it suggest... I think
insiders were selling GS because they know this tsunami was coming.

What do you guys think?  Is a Tsundami about to hit us? I am buying
SRS tomorrow for protection.

Although with regard to point 4) and 5) in your list there might be
some explanations (wafer vs module different geo sales distributions
and interests capitalization on poly plant / fixed assets up until it
is completed - very dangerous by the way), I totally agree on your
concerns .... as I said, my only hope is this company turning to be a
module producer rather than staying as wafers producer ..... but
that's about it.
The poly plant has been a crazy choice and they are trying to minimise
the damage .... whatever they do, most of the damage won't be cured
out. Any investor would look for a return on it. Which will end up to
be in any case a "cost", in any form, for LDK. Much better if they
didn't invest a penny in poly production. LDK unless supported by
govnt for many many years to come would get close to insolvency.
Fortunately, they offer almost 14.000 permanent jobs and therefore may
get a permanent support. But for sure will not distribute any dividend
in the next ten years, should they survive.

Well I don’t know if people on this board understand what counting
balls means… hehe… But I do, and after living in China for more then 2
years, I can tell you that Chinese are pretty good at that….

I am not convinced at the results LDK posted and something doesn’t add
up to me. The 15% pop shows to me once again that this stocks is
manipulated and I used the opportunity to buy more put. I am really
curious to find out what analysts will say and if they will byte the
bait. Here’s my list of concerns:

1)      They made 29 mil but 22 thanks of to write off reversals. That
means they made only 7 mil which is about 6 cents a share.
2)      The first 13 reversal come from a ‘unspecified’ vendor so one is
able to verify it it’s the truth.
3)      Government subsidies in the quarter  were about 30 mil RMB. One
analyst pointed that the subsidies plus the reversal really was the
greater part of the earnings in the quarter.
4)      When asked to comment about the Q-Cells who made up for the Q3
shortfall they said that it’s thanks to sales in China and Asia,
especially Taiwan. Again they didn’t mention any names, so one cannot
double check if they are truthful. But the when asked about their
geographic distributions for the shipments  they said that it is
mainly from Europe and some from U.S. and very, very small from Asia.
Go figure…
5)      They said that their interest rates are over 6% but on the balance
sheet is recorded at 3%.
6)      They are selling their polypant to private investors, but I am
still not clear about how that will affect earnings. I am sure they
will pay premium return to their Chinese private firms. But what will
be left for us investors?
7)      After Nick left, the management is all Chinese. That explained to
me a lot of things, not to mention the confidence in their conf call…

I am puzzled as to why people still buy or hold this stock, including,
of course, myself.

God bless Charlie Situ

I read the conf call transcript .... amazing the estimate of module
ship in 2010 .... 400MW - 600MW
that's impressive !
they expect same average margin as wafer .... but on module's sales it
means the double in terms of $$$ ... bottom line .... since ASP on
module is 1.80/w, on wafer is 0.90/w.
interesting .....
on top, they expect to ship 1.4GW of wafer in 2010 .....
let's hope they don't count balls ...... you know Dave what I
mean ..... right ?

Ciao Davide

happy to hear from you !

I do agree with your comments and join your view ..... ldk's
management has proved to be unreliable over time and market is not
giving them any confidence. Although results have largely beaten
expectations, sp is still below 9.00. I still own some shares and some
2011 calls and will keep them into 2010. In meantime, have decided to
move my interests in solar on CSIQ. It seems to have a more solid
balance sheet. The major good sign for LDK is the local support from
government. I assume thanks to the large jobs base of LDK.
Overall, though, I don't trust this market either.

Even if you flatlined their earnings for the next year, and showed no
quarter over quarter growth for the entirety of 2010, you would be
looking at earnings per share of around $1 based on q3 earnings. That
puts FPE a 9X with the stock at $9, average should be around 16x,
implying a price of $15. Sure its more complex than that, but these
shares are undervalued and the 22 million short shares should help
push this higher all day.
