The biggest risk to DFS is the bill allowing bankruptcy judges to
readjust mortgages.

This will set off a rush to bankruptcy and be down right disaster.

Any one know what is the latest status of the bill ? Is it dead or
just moving slowly ?

Hope we can avoid political rhetoric - just focus on status of bill
and its chances of passing.

How can you ask to avoid rhetoric when you've started off with the
dubious claim "This will set off a rush to bankruptcy and be down
right disaster."?

My understanding of bankruptcy is limited, but I would think it
wouldn't make a difference on who chose to file bankruptcy.  Rather, I
think it would make a difference in choosing to file Ch. 13 (since
there's a better chance to keep the house) than Ch. 7.  This is
marginally better for DFS, in actuality, because Ch. 7 produces no
payback of outstanding unsecured debt, but Ch. 13 gives DFS a (slim)
chance at recovering losses (I believe they can file a claim even as
an unsecured credit card company).

People who would "rush to bankruptcy" are already close to the ledge,
anyway, and many of them would wind up filing Ch. 7 eventually, which
is the worst possible result for DFS.
