If the other one is gone, First National, this one would benefit and
take new fresh business. First reaction.

SSBX is acting just like nothing has happened.  Still expanding!  Is
it hiding something?

There is no way they will survive.  Their real estate losses in
Arizona pale to their real estate losses in Nevada.  We've only seen
the tip of the problem.

With a book Value per Share of over $10 this is a no brainer to buy.
I wouldn't put too much of your portfolio into it...I've put 3% of my
cash into it...and I'm in for the long haul...

They've put their expansion projects on hold...

I'd be more afraid of the recent bounce of wamu...they swallowed up
Providian and all that unsecured credit card debt...

SSBX has enough cash to survive, just not grow...Guess we'll know in
six months for sure though...

As far as new business, they're still originating millions in loans
and you know those new loans won't be Alt-A or subprime...which FYI,
they did not deal with subprime loans to begin with...

Well good luck then...my target price is $0.99...hopefully the latest
statement saying they are able to weather the losses will help to
rebuild some confidence and drive this stock back near the book
value...

Still, I'll sell 80% of my holdings at .99 at let the other 20%
roll...I think Kiyosaki called that, "Indian Giving"...

Next stop, RBS...

For those that are interested: I have been trying to short SSBX off
and on for the past 2-3 weeks but shares were always unavailable at
either of my online brokerages that I typically use. Some just opened
up today and I began a starter short position. I know this stock had a
pretty high interest both in existing shorts and to locate for new
shortable shares. Just as an FYI, this stock may see some new shorting
activity in the near future.

Shorting a 90 cent stock?  Not much upside to that is there (compared
to the downside)?

You may want to short the banks that have issued those unsecured
credit cards to the folks that can't make their monthly
payment...those will be next domino to fall...but to each their own...

I'm with the long crowd, though...

Guess I'll be sitting on this until they turn profitable or go BK...

I have the same take - so if the become profitable this will swing
back
or go bust. If the bust scenario is the 2nd most likely it is still a
decent deal.

I'm gonna backpedal too...here's why...

The national attention this is going to receive may pressure
government agencies to seize the bank...

The majority of the deposits are held by four individuals...

There's a run on the bank and it's bleeding $4,000,000 a day in
withdraws...

I was bullish on this stock and confident it could recover (on it's
own)...but since the press will blow this way out of proportion and
considering the possibility of one of the large deposits being
withdrawn, I went ahead and sold...took a 15% loss...besides, if there
is a run on the bank their book value will be gone...

Incredible luck for the shorts that restatement of earnings,
though...I'll keep watching, and if it gets to .10 then maybe I'll
throw a few bucks at it.........

Just as a follow up - I tried opening a short this morning @ $.62, but
my broker (interactivebrokers) was unable to locate additional shares.
Might be a good sign for the longs, but I wouldn't hold my breath. I'm
holding my existing short from back in the mid .80's.

them. Glad I held on to what I did. This puppy paid!
