Subject: I'm buying into Target
I'm a long time Target customer - and I know I have to drive in
circles and avoid shopping carts just to get a parking space, then
walk a block to get in the front door.

I also worked for Target once for Xmas money, and gotta tell ya, that
was the best job I ever had in my entire life - best most friendly
people, treat their employees overall very well, employees aren't
bickering with each other.  I work as a corporate paralegal - I should
have taken a career position with Target

They have a very impressive loss - prevention system, the company is
paranoid about safety, they have team leaders instead of supervisors -
and if a customer is looking for something, they get somebody over
there to help them

Some of the most pleasant working conditions I ever experienced.  I
can actually save a buck by driving 5 miles to Walmart and parking in
the next town, then shoving my way past a bazillion crying babies and
very depressed people.  A lot of people shop at Target because it's
cleaner and happier.  We even go there for dinner.  They have an
Archer Farms soup that is better than most restaurants, in a
breadbowl, for $3.00. The coffee is very decent, and there's a few
Starbucks in some of the stores.

They have designer furniture and designer accessories, really cute
stuff.  They have a basic color and fashion line in clothes, and a
great end of year clearance rack that everybody knows about.  The
jewelry department isn't that great, and handbags could definitely use
an upgrade -

I would like to see them do something about the horrible shoes -
that's the only criticism I have about Target.  Not a place I ever buy
shoes.  Appliances, electronics, really good TV department, but every
time I go into Target, I push a cart out the door that costs about
$100 - and so does everybody else.  I have yet to go into a vacant
Target store.

And the stores are reliable.  I've been all over the US, on vacation,
and all the Target stores seem to be on the same strategic plan.  Go
figure.

With the market the way it is right now - I suppose I could throw down
money on emerging technologies (which I did and made money) and stand
around watching the market jump around.  Honestly, I'm going to turn
off CNBC, they seem to be as useful as a flashlight on a trip to the
sun.

It seems like you are instilling your emotions into this stock.  I'm
not a psychologist, but, this can be seen as a defense mechanism--
making one believe and cope with the current weak conditions at
target.

You wrote a thesis and you didn't mention the most important factors
why TGT has been down lately:

1.  Cannot find a buyer for their credit card division.  TGT blames
"market conditions" but in actuality, there is no investment bank that
will buy TGT's credit division due mainly to the ongoing credit
crunch.  Do some research, its everywhere.

2.  The share buyback program has halted.  Let's ask why?  Share price
has not reached TGT's comfort zone to commence with their buyback
program.

3.  Current Sales have been revised multiple times and all the
revision has been negative; + - 1% sales forecast from last year.
This is a very weak sales threshold.

4.  Home furnishings which is TGT's main revenue driver has been
decreasing and will decrease further in the months
ahead...why?...because of lacking consumer spending and more
importantly an ongoing housing recession.  With lower sales in the new
housing market, this is a big negative for TGT's stock price.

TGT will fall further and do not fool yourself because you have
"experienced first hand" the dynamics and ambience at TGT.  It's also
wiser to provide figures to support an argument.

 People lie, numbers don't.

Do you shop at Target?  Perhaps I can interest you in Congressional
funding over at Lockheed for their next brainchild.  Nobody has any
idea what is going on inside any corporation, just today, Mozilla is
running all over town going "we're not declaring bankruptcy" (shades
of Enron)  I tell you what, you tell me which stock is gonna excel
tomorrow, and I'll check back and buy some -who knows?  Target is not
going out of business.  Here's a little inside info on Reuters, the
great nay-sayers.  I used to live 3 blocks from their terminal office
in St. Louis.  They hawk whatever is on their agenda.  They are the
most super-secretive news agency in the world.  I think it's a 5th
branch of government.  So when Reuters says anything, I consider them
about as newsworthy as the magazine rack at the checkout stand.
Aliens abducted my poodle.

It may not attract day traders, it may not attract people who invest
in Congressional funding, all I know, is the store is always there,
the parking lot is loaded up, the place is clean (unlike Walmart),
there is nobody hawking a jar full of change at the front door, the
bathroom is always clean, and it's where I buy my small appliances.
People are not being attacked in the back aisles - like the time some
guy tried that in a Target and security was on him - I had a Target
credit card - ran it up, paid it off, now I just use my debit card.  I
agree, the credit card was probably a lousey idea.

I have to stay in the market someplace, how about $50 a share, and
volitility doesn't look like a piece of shredded glass.  February is
Valentines month.  Target is loaded up with valentine goodies,
overlapping St. Patricks day, people are gleaning the discount
clothing instead of shipping it off to China to be sold for .25 a
pound, the clothes fit, the cafe is serving up soup in a bowl, and
their carts don't clog up major intersections, and the parking lot
isn't full of protesters decrying the economics of Target wiping small
towns off the map.

Don't get me wrong here, but I've seen the competition - I love the
competition - just not when I'm not taking Xanex.  The only worse
place to spend a few hours of your day is in a store filled up with
off-label imitations you're not sure what's in the ingredients all
selling for the same price.    I guess I'm stodgy, but I've actually
talked to customers in Target - we all like it because it's clean.
Who doesn't shop at Target.   People living in their cars, people
pretending to be "out of gas".  I go there for the oil change
however.  They do a good oil change.

It's a toss up right now.  No really, you tell us right here what to
buy tomorrow, I'll check back and buy it, and if I make real money on
it, I'll go over to Target and flag down the cart- boy and tell him to
go find a new job.

I made $40,000 in solar - solar is in the dumper for the next month -
got any bright ideas?  Honestly.  Let's hear 'em.  Before the pump and
dump, which is what is going on.  At least they aren't pumping
Target.  The other guy looks like a fish movie from the 80's.  I
suppose I could buy QQQQ and make a buck a share.  Hey, how about we
all get together and invest in nuclear energy.

I've got a penny stock for you:  BLGA.  Buy a million shares and eat
beans out of a can for 5 years.

...and....I got some very cute designer plastic dishes two days ago
and matching glasses.  My daughter bought me the Shabby Chic shower
curtain and matching mirror bathroom accessories - tre chic!!!  I also
got a shiny new bright red metallic microwave for $25.00 during Xmas!
I also have the polka-dot matching comforter and sheets.

Return Policy:  You can return anything at Tar.....JAA....with your
receipt, no questions asked.......I never had so much fun in my life
than when I worked at Target.  I was the "go-back" girl, which was a
big relief from paralegal sweating out deadlines in the back office.
I picked up a cart of returns and reversed shopped them back into the
store.  They have great retail buyers, cause I found the cutest things
reverse shopping.

So now, tell me, Tar--JAAA is going to close up in the middle of the
night.  Maybe the shoe department, in fact, I think they can scrap the
entire shoe department and put in more groceries.  Have you seen the
Tar-JAA in Plano Texas!  Whoa!!  Hit me!

You show me the great numbers on a great stock, and then tell me the
CFO isn't cooking the books.  Gut feeling, reality.  I would never buy
a stock on it's numbers.  I used to do corporate bankruptcies for
Harvard lawyers helping to bail out the investors who believed in
somebody's great numbers.  I actually mailed out the Charles Keating
"sorry folks, you lost everything" to their investors.  Numbers can
lie big time.  That's the best way to lure investors to a stock, just
cook the books.  I see a really bad company out there, and the numbers
look too good to be true, hey, people lie.  Human frailty.  I can only
invest in something I see or I know.  I can give a rat's hat for a
spreadsheet because the CFO is in there somewhere.  I don't know this
person, I haven't seen the files, all I'm looking at is a
spreadsheet.  I'm not looking at the receipts or the invoices.  Hey -
it goes on all day long.

Please understand that this company is not positioned very well
because it has too many negative drivers affecting its share price.

Target can be a great place to do shopping--an experience incomparable
to its competitors, however, if a CEO of your own firm provides a
warning on:

1.  margins being squeezed,

2.  Credit division not selling in the near future,

3.  share buyback program being halted (remember they got approved to
buy $10 Billion worth of shares...in July TGT said they will have
bought majority of their share by year end---year end has past and
less than majority have been bought back...now these are hardcore
numbers that I am referring to).

The parking lot at TGT can be packed at capacity, but, if a particular
sale threshold is not met then the stock is on the decreasing end.

This was in the end of November but this is one of the many negatives
that is pricing target very low right now:

"Fitch Ratings cut its credit rating for Target Corp (TGT.N: Quote,
Profile, Research), citing the retailer's new $10 billion share
repurchase program."

"Fitch anticipates that Target will fund the majority of the share
repurchase with debt, thereby weakening the company's credit metrics,"
the ratings agency said in a statement.

The new $10 billion share buyback program replaces its prior
authorization, and Target said it represents more than 20 percent of
outstanding shares, based on its recent stock price."

And why would I believe anything Fitch has to say?  They're a
brokerage house.
