Subject: Any mathematicians here? What is the meaning of matrix addition?

Since an m x n matrix is a transformation from R^n to R^m space,
multiplying two matrices together is like doing one transformation
after another.

Now, what does the sum of two matrices (transformations) mean? Oh and
thanks.

Know how to add?

4 + 5 = 9

Two by two matrix:

4  4        5  5       9  9
4  4   +   5  5   =  9  9

You knew that.

Two by two matrix:
Matrix A
1    2
3    4

Another two by two:
Matrix B
5   6
7   8

A+B =

1+5   2+6
3+7   4+8

=

  6     8
10   12

Other than that you have lost me.

Subject: Re: Any mathematicians here? What is the meaning of matrix addition?
There are transformation functions and transformations act like a
matrix.
 so M x N = Rows x Columns

multiplication looks like this
Ax=b where T(x)=b
M x N * N x P = M * P thus from n -> m
P can equal any number

for addition the size of the matrices have to be equal thus  3 x 3 + 3
x 3 = 3 x 3 or 4 x 1 + 4 x 1 = 4 x 1

What chapter are you on?

I suggest you watch Khan Academy videos. They very good.

Unfortunately, no can be...told...what the matrix is.  You have to see
it for yourself...

I believe that while mulitplication is a tranformation, addition
represents a translation within the same space.

Addition is theboperation of translating one transformation to
another.
